Ozark Trails cast iron works well. Have a 3 pan set I got around 5 years ago. They do need secondary seasoning for best performance. This is a decent price. Check Walmart at the end of summer for best clearance prices on these "camping" cast iron pans. I have many cast irons, from Le Creuset, to Lodge, to Emeril, Tramontia, to Wolfgang Puck, to Mexican market specials. The Ozark Trails get used the most.

Lodge is the brand. Just do a quick SD search or set a deal alert.

In this age of virtually everything being from china, it is very easy to spend a little more and get an American made Skillet.

Expensive cast iron is a scam, just go with the cheapest. The only difference is the pre-seasoning, which you should do yourself anyway since a lot of the pre-season gets often rubbed off during shipping. The "expensive" brands will use soybean oil to pre-season, but any oil except olive oil is fine. Your pan will just get better with use anyway.

The second difference is weight, which increases heat retention. This is dependent on user preference. If you work in a busy restaurant or you don't have a lot of hand strength it's worth upgrading to carbon steel, but other than that I've found it's very hard to chip even the cheapest cast iron unless you're just really terrible in the kitchen or you're cooking for 100 people in a busy restaurant.

You'll see videos on youtube on how a certain cast iron skillet is better, it's all a lie, it's just how often it's been used and placebo effect after that. More uses and proper cleaning = thicker seasoning.

Don't let the fact that it's made in China deter you from a deal. A hunk of iron is a hunk of iron - This is a steal, especially if you want an introduction to cast iron cooking. If you like it and want to upgrade to something more, you can get a vintage pan or a $150 pan made in the US - this set can then be used for outside cooking and camping trips.

Personally, I'm going to jump on this deal because I want to try my hands on sanding it down to see how it cooks.

Yeah made right here in one of the lowest education and living standard States in the union.

Tennessee is very comparable to China.

Ozark Trail is just fine if you season is with a couple rounds of bacon cooking.

Yummmmm. Plus China "cast iron" has so much more flavor.

Neither of these are actually true though. Tenessee is completely average in education and has a lower cost of living than the national average with an average salary nearly double the national average.

Tennessee is not comparable to China at all you are literally just making things up.
