I really want to like this but since the front flips totally back, it makes the entire top shelf unusable to store anything permanent on. The rendered pictures show lamps on top, but it seems like an accident waiting to happen if the top falls backwards. Good price, and I'm sure this has a function for some people, but I'm going to keep looking.

I really want to like this but since the front flips totally back, it makes the entire top shelf unusable to store anything permanent on. The rendered pictures show lamps on top, but it seems like an accident waiting to happen if the top falls backwards. Good price, and I'm sure this has a function for some people, but I'm going to keep looking.

Agreed, there are a lot of these style and it's always seemed such a weird design. Unless you're accessing that area once in a blue moon it's just pointless space. Perhaps useful for people with the discipline to always keep horizontal surfaces free of things but that ain't me.

I believe the idea is with the top closed it's a place where you can have your chargers and maybe a couple other items plugged in out of sight with just the charging cable coming out of the side. If you want it open you leave it open the way the picture displays it with the lamp. I don't believe the idea is to have it where you are constantly accessing that area then closing it. There's not a ton of ways to have an accessible area that's out of sight and it not be a little disrupting. I have one where the entire top lifts straight up and that's not always great. What they need is to have a handle and you just pull it out of the side but then that would be a drawer.

They even show the same lamp in the open and closed position, I guess they expect you to pick it up and lower it onto the underside of the lid 😅

Cutting the top in half and adding hinges is just cheaper to manufacture than a drawer so they do it even though it's a terrible design.
