Is it worth it to just get the last gen 27 imac for $200-500 more depending on model, or is this screen different?
That iMac can't be used as a monitor

Does the monitor fall under 90 day return window?

EDIT: It does not, so no need for Apple Care, can return any time.

I paid $900 out the door for 3 27" 144hz viewsonic monitors during the height of covid-19.
I love a ton of Apple products but this is seriously overpriced.
We're they 5K? No they weren't.

No they weren't a giant waste of money. 1440p is the best resolution for overall gaming and text size. Nice try though, GG
Thanks for the insightful opinion on Mac gaming monitors

Looks like 27-inch mini led version is at the corner
I hope so, along with a jump to ProMotion (120Hz) while we're making a wishlist. AFAICT, the M2s should support pushing that many pixels at 5K, though maybe only over HDMI. We seem to be stuck at 60Hz over Thunderbolt.

It may also be downward price pressure from Samsung's 5K ViewFinity S9 that was recently announced at CES.

Still, this is a nice price if you were already shopping for a Studio Display.

If they can get ProMotion in their 5k displays I'll be sold. This is still an incredible monitor but if I'm dropping $1,000+ I just can't go back to 60Hz

This screen is a little brighter but without "target display" feature it won't help you as a monitor.

Thanks, didn't realize that. Really cripples the imac and shortens its useful life to become e-waste faster. Such a shame with that gorgeous huge screen.

It sucks there really isn't any other options for a 5k display. These monitors, on a Mac, show screen real estate the same as a 1440p monitor just twice as sharp…. Hopefully these fall in price even more and apple releases a 5k display with 120hz, pro motion and hdr for not much more.

Agreed. Probably one of the reasons the 27" iMac was discontinued.

Not twice as sharp. 4x as sharp. 5K is 4x the number of pixels (5120x2880) as 1440p (2560x1440).
