It not just Sheepleism though, if you want the retina dpi (and it do look good), and no scaling wonkyness, you basically have this or the LG Ultrafines, which are in the same price range.

But yes, it costs a penny.

Is this an upgrade over the LG Ultrafine Mac 5k monitor?
I have two, and they both have had ghosting issues. Anecdata.

Imagine paying $1300 for a non OLED monitor...
OLED monitors are not that great for normal productivity tasks: When your OS is in light mode, on a sustained 100% white window the brightness of oled panels will be very low at around 200-300 nits where as the studio display will be doing 550-600 nits with no risk of burn-ins. For games and movies an OLED will be wayyy better. I have had the studio display since launch and its been excellent apart from the disappointing webcam. I watch movies & play games on an OLED.

Studio display
+ 5K 27 which is a notable improvement over 4K 27
+ Thunderbolt 3 dock with 96w PD charging
+ Excellent speakers and mic (considering its inbuilt)
+ Brightness of 500-600 nits even on a sustained 100% window
+ Inbuilt power supply
- Mediocre webcam

I think this is a great price for what it provides, but all depends on how much Samsung is going to charge for its 27 inch 5K monitor and also Dell with their 32 inch 6K monitor.

Never surprises me the sorts of people that post in mac, watch and anything else luxury. Same argument, different item.

I use this for professional reasons and before that used apples 2012 thunderbolt. It's an excellent display and the 600 nits really lights up the room - useful especially if you're running the glossy screen display.
Is it still color accurate at 600nits?

Tempting to get a 2nd one at this price but I really want a VESA mount one for flexibility. My current on is this tilt-only model. Unless I see a deep discounted VESA model I'll hold off and see if Apple releases a better featured mid-level model w/ the new Mac Pro. I'd agree the Studio Display @ full MSRP is overpriced. But it's fair value at $1300 -- same as the LG and much better build quality.
FYI. Apple_com has the vesa version as a refurb for $1359. I have no issue buying apple refurb personally. They are effectively new but in a plane box.

Imagine not having any idea what you're speaking about……… My 10 year Apple LED screen looks new as the day I bought it.

Oled would have already loss significantly life within that time and much less brighter.

I hope so, along with a jump to ProMotion (120Hz) while we're making a wishlist. AFAICT, the M2s should support pushing that many pixels at 5K, though maybe only over HDMI. We seem to be stuck at 60Hz over Thunderbolt.

It may also be downward price pressure from Samsung's 5K ViewFinity S9 that was recently announced at CES.

Still, this is a nice price if you were already shopping for a Studio Display.
I'm not sure Apple downward pressure is in Apple's vocab. But I am excited to see more 5 and 6k monitors coming down the line. I toohope the next Apple Monitor is ProMotion.

It's obvious there aren't many professionals in this thread if most of the arguments are trying to compare a gaming monitor with this lmao.

Exactly. I have a 49" Samsung G9 Odyssey with a 240Hz refresh rate and I don't give a flying f*ck about it besides playing my racing sim with my Logitech steering wheel. Other than that, I cannot stand using it for more than 15 minutes to how blurry it is just using a web browser.

My LG 5Ks in dual setup has the same real estate as FOUR 49" inch Samsungs. The text is so clear that I don't get eyestrain from looking at a SSH terminal window for 6-8 hours a day or writing code in VS Code.

I would not use my 5K monitor for gaming nor would I use my 240Hz gaming monitor for productivity.

Is it worth it to just get the last gen 27 imac for $200-500 more depending on model, or is this screen different?
Last gen iMacs have no target display mode, meaning you can't use them just as a monitor.

I'll bite on 2 of these once they're $999 which is the old price of the Thunderbolt displays that I have.
