No that drive does not have DRAM. It has an SLC cache which is inferior and often marketed as DRAM to trick people who don't know better.

Teamgroup sure does spend a lot of money on sponsorships here at SD though...

You need proficient literacy skills to know the difference between MP33 and MP34.

Go with the TeamGroup MP34 over this. DRAM > HMB. Plus, the MP34 is cheaper. MP34 is phenomenal.

This drive is the same as the Z44L. In the benchmarks I've seen, they are pretty comparable. It's much cooler if you want to stick it into a laptop or PS5.

This I think is a better deal than the entry level QLC drives which gets so much attention as MSI having a large US based support organization.

You are talking about the wrong SSD… Team makes good stuff at good prices, that's why you see it a lot here.

Would this drive be OK in a PS5 given it doesn't have a heatsink?

this drive works in the PS5 because it's PCIE 4.0... you should get a heat sink as the console strongly recommends it.

I had bought this back in 2020 for around $75 for a 1tb. It is pretty fast and I have no problems recommending it. I use virtual machines and a lot AI video rendering with files over 400gb each and this drive has been working hard for a while now.

Definitely get a heatsink for it. Gen 4 drives run hot (all of them) and the PS5 has almost no airflow going to the SSD. The only place a Gen 4 drive without a heatsink is somewhat acceptable is in a well ventilation desktop PC case, and even then a heatsink is highly recommended.

and u came to msi thread to support team product. unless its a paid endorsement, you would not be even here.
They are junk products, the worse is to get a warranty replacement.

So it's fine to put this ssd in a laptop? Or is there something else I should be looking at?

I bought a MP34 1TB from Amazon the last time it was at this price. It's not the same as the drive in most of the reviews. It's a RTS5672 controller with 128MB DRAM and 128L Hynix TLC.
I get about 3000/2600 MB/s read/write. This is with a fresh install of windows 10 with all Windows updates installed which Teamgroup recommended when I emailed saying it did not reach the advertised specs.
