Would be nice to get a $99 one-way fare from the EAST Coast ...someday. I know that's asking too much, but I can dream! =(

Sounds like you've never been. I've done Bali, French Polynesia, Caribbean, Europe, and still found Maui breathtaking

baffling why anyone would take an 11 hour flight to Hawaii when they could get anywhere in Europe in 7 hours
It's baffling why anyone would take a 7 hour flight to Europe when you can go to New England in 3 hours or less.

If you become homeless in Hawaii they'll give you a free ticket out. YMMV.

HI is one of the expensive place to visit.
I've been visiting the Hawaii islands every year since 2014. I can tell you it is really not that expensive if you plan it right. Especially beach and hiking are basically free. Accommodations can be reasonable if you look out for deals or rentals months ahead. Flight can be reasonable like this deal. Foods can be reasonable if you eat and cook like locals at rental property. Taking kids to Orlando are way more expensive if you account of the theme park tickets and dine in the theme parks.

I can get to Philadelphia in an hour, but why would I do that to myself?

@EliteZags It's 6 hrs flight for us in West coast.
@eshank Which Caribbean can you fly to in around 6hrs that's prettier than Hawaii with similar cost? Serious question.
Because maybe they've been to those spots

Why would anyone take a 7 hour trip to Europe when you can get to Canada in couple of hours? People travel to different places. Besides, I hear Hawaii is beautiful. What's your point?

I live in Florida and just spent 9 days in Hawaii hopping the islands. Sure it was 16 total hours each way travel time but still worth it (AirPods 2 helped make the travel more bearable). If I lived in CA I'd absolutely take full advantage of this deal as often as I could. I've been there 2x and already excited for a 3rd visit. I don't just sit on a beach; I explore and drive and hike.

If you've never been to Hawaii you really cannot fathom it's beauty and numerous opportunities for exploration. All beaches are public access and free. State parks have a nominal fee that won't break the budget. Day to day prices and groceries weren't much more expensive than what I'm used to in Florida. Sure, gas is an extra buck a gallon. Dining out was very comparable (and the quality of food is often even better).

And yes I've been to Europe 3x traveling multiple countries, so I'm familiar with both. Not saying one is any better than the other. But to put down Hawaii without ever having been there is non-sensical.

It's a crazy thought but maybe some people actually want to go to Hawaii and you can't do that by going to Europe.

I live in Honolulu and am obviously biased. We have a love hate relationship with visitors. When the pandemic was at its peak and we were shut down Waikiki was empty and the residents were thrilled. But thousands were unemployed and living on the edge.

This is a beautiful place. Even on Oahu there are still places with incredible natural beauty. The water is warm and clean. The air is clean except when we get vog from the volcano but that is rare.

People come here to be outside. If that's not your idea of a vacation please go somewhere else. In addition to the beach we have trails and parks. You can go on a boat. If you scuba it's great here.

If you do visit please be smart. We lose visitors in the water or they attempt a hike they are not prepared for or start too late. We have strong currents. Waikiki is protected but everyone seems to read some secret guide and goes somewhere they shouldn't. We have real waves. You may have read about the Eddie Akau surf meet. 20 foot minimum to be held. This time of year the north shore of Oahu gets monster surf. No do not go in the water.

It does rain. We need rain for our water. Today is the first day of rain in about a month. The spring is the rainy season but it can vary. Often it rains in the morning and clears up. My brother visited around Xmas and no rain. Some parts of the island are wetter than others. Same for the other islands.

If you are traveling with someone whose mobility is not great don't make them hike Diamond Head. It's not that hard but in the morning with the sun blazing down they will have trouble. It's by reservation now as is Hanauma Bay which is very nice.

We are south of Mexico City. The sun is very strong. This time of year it's not so bad but in the summer you can burn easily. Hit the beach early or after 2. And if possible don't leave things unattended on the beach. Popular beaches ok but if you are somewhere remote be smart. Same for your rental car. Lock anything in your trunk or take it with you. If I go to the beach I take some cash and that's about it.

If you visit Honolulu go to Pearl Harbor. It's very moving. Try to get out of Waikiki. During the school year traffic is bad from about 6:30-8:30;am and from 2:30 pm on. It's school traffic. Use google maps our streets can be confusing and are not well marked. Don't beep at another car.

The other islands are also beautiful. Maui is the most popular. Kauai is gorgeous but has less to do. The Kona side of the Big Island is hot and dry with great beaches. But also very $$$$. You can fly direct now to the other islands.

Expensive? Of course. We import almost everything. We have great local fish. Ahi = tuna. Try an ahi sandwich. The fish is mild. Eat a malasada from Leonard's. The original Roy's is in Hawaii Kai.

If you want an aloha shirt go to Costco. Warning the one towards the airport is always crazy except after 7:30 during the week.

Ala Moana shopping center has gone upscale but also has many places to eat. Longs= CVS.
On days like today visitors go shopping.

We are GMT -10 and don't change. Currently we are 2 hours behind the west coast and 5 to the east coast. In a few months that will be 3 and 6. If you watch sports it's live.

Visit and have a great time.

I know this wasn't Hawaii, but back in 2017 I got a RT ticket from Miami to California for around $70-80.. It was an insane deal that I randomly found online and immediately bought without even planning to go to California. It was one of my favorite trips I've taken to date.
