American Airlines, United Airlines and Expedia have round trip airfares travelling from Detroit (DTW) to Madrid (MAD) for $607-$611 or to Barcelona (BCN) for $607, making 1 stop. These are basic economy fares and only include a personal item and a carry-on bag (even on United). There is no seat selection and no change. However, if you need a seat, you'll be given the option to choose for a fee (varies).

Google "metropolitan area" and learn something new.
Complete nonsense. It's a lovely street anytime of the day, buzzing with activity, great for people watching. But as with all major tourist destinations, restaurant quality varies and it only takes a quick peek at TA or GMaps to see if a restaurant is worth your time. I had one of my best meals in Barcelona on La Rambla.
West coast to Spain was under $500 RT last year.
