A lot of people have fixtures / ceiling fans with three or four bulbs. 100 watt bulbs would be blindingly bright for those. The main places I use 100 watt bulbs are reading lamps and hallways. Mostly 60-75 watts elsewhere, except where there's only a single bulb trying to light an entire room.

Were they in enclosed fixtures, by chance? LED bulbs can be sensitive to heat and some can die prematurely if they're not designed for enclosed fixtures. I have some hall lights with glass domes that completely enclose them and the LED lights I've used in them tend to die pretty quick.

I've never seen a GE LED bulb last more than 6 months. (I believe all of mine were also purchased from target)
