It is a later generation but I believe it lacks dram whereas the 970 Evo Plus has dram which should give overall better (more consistent) performance.

I bought the 1TB version for $94 on Newegg back in Aug-2021. So I presume the 500GB version would've been roughly $50 ~2 years ago during a sale. With much faster NvME's today for roughly the same price (e.g. Crucial P3 Plus 500GB that is only $40) as this, why wouldn't you buy the Crucial? Maybe my set-up is wrong, but I have Microsoft Flight Simulator and Forza Horizon 5 on this "980", and games just takes forever to load up to the main menu (when firing up the game). I've been eyeing the P3 Plus for the past month because I'm curious if the 5000MB/s read speed would reduce the load times.

I've only seen a few major reviewers with extensive game loading benchmarks, but they generally show most decent NVMe SSDs load games fairly similarly: https://www.techpowerup.com/revie...tb/13.html

Btw, have you compared game load times on your Samsung 980 to any others? I bought two WD SN 570s that are supposed to be very similar but were cheaper when I searched. They've been fantastic for my laptop and desktop. For bootup, gaming, software dev, low temps etc. For game loads, it wasn't that much faster than my DRAM SATA SSDs though, as expected.

this looks to be a good price for Samsung, but looking at some of the questions posed, one reviewer on Amazon Customer questions & answers didn't seem to recommend this for a pc with 8 gigs of ram...

As another user mentioned in his review, without the cache (DRAM cache, 1GB in the 1TB ssd), the 980 firmware cleverly makes use of system memory - which is _fast_ these days.

However - in a machine with 8 GB, or even 16 GB at times - depending upon what programs you're using, you may find the 980 suffering on multi-file operations if it can't secure about a GB of system memory. I would still pick the 980 all day long as a data drive, but might hesitate if I didn't have sufficient system memory (I've 32GB and could spare the GB). In an 8GB system I would probably think twice about the 980. Well, in an 8GB system I would be buying memory first, ;-)

anyone have issues using this for a C drive with 8 gigs of ram? thanks.
