The brand is solid- I bought "Schmidt Brothers Forged 10-piece Knife Block Set" in April of 2021 for $59.97. Wood grain colored handles vs these black one, but similar overall. Good knives.

Was it with the horizontal magnetic
block instead of slotted stand like this one. I think I bought that one too but returned due to inconvenience.

On the fence about this, says German steel but made in China. Anyone else own these and can weigh in? Or should I just buy and lean on the Costco warranty & return service?

I bought a similiar set from costco, which are currently priced the same, but have a lesser discount. I left a negative review on the Costco website, and ended up returning them. The issues I had were both issues with the general condition of the knives I received (could have been a bad batch), as well as the design of the knife block and the built in sharpener (the reason I returned them instead of having them replaced). It looks like another person in the comments bought a similiar set for about $60 in 2021. I'd say that would be a fair price for the general quality of this knife set, but I think 90 is too high. However, given it's Costco and they have a hassle free return policy, it might be worth buying to try it and see if you have any issues.
