I bought the 2TB to put in an enclosure and its extremely slow, unbearable after filling 1TB. It was also super slow initially. Nowhere near advertised speeds.
It looks to be a dram-less SATA SSD, which makes random writes slower, so it should be a decent boot drive. These are kinda big for a dedicated boot drive so it would probably be better to spend a bit more to get one with dram so that you can put other files on there like games and what not. Then, everything would be faster in general.

I do agree with a previous reply where they don't trust Patriot. It is anecdotal, but I've had 2 usb sticks of theirs die prematurely and an ssd get random cell failures after only a couple years. That was just my experience though, so I stick with Samsung and Crucial for the most part. Just my 2 cents though.

NO!!!! Would not trust them as a boot drive... Even as a storage drive I'd definitely consider it what I put on it is really important.... Had two PNY SSD's fail in two different system about a 1.5~2 yrs after install...

This would be good for a steam game drive. Some kinda data that if it were to die wouldn't be a big deal other than time re downloading. But because it's a cheap ssd it doesn't have a d ram cache. This could become slower than a mechanical hard drive when it gets tons of stuff written to it. So you been warned

I've tested various cheap drives including patriot, pny, inland etc. after 3-5GB of data written it's funny how they will crawl down to 70-80mbps write speeds. Sometimes slower.

I've bought several 2.5" SATA SSDs from Patriot, mostly to replace aging laptop boot drives. They work fine for that purpose. Only thing to keep in mind is as they fill up, they slow down. Especially in the last 100gb or so they get painfully slow. I'd recommend just partitioning off the last 100gb, so you don't have to deal with that. At $40 a TB though, it seems like there might be some other niche uses like as a media storage drive in SFF cases. Maybe for storage in an emulation machine? I'm sure you guys can find some creative uses where you want faster than HDD speeds but don't need lightning fast like NVMe.

Running a TRIM command while connected to SATA should restore the drive's performance.

I see someone saw the comment I left yesterday about this drive over on the crucial 1TB thread. I have a couple as just game drives. Cheap and don't expect much out of them. Would not use as boot drive. Have m.2 for those.

Cheap enclosures will do this with any drive.

Looks like it'll drop to around 240MB/s after 16gb or so constant writing on SATA
