You can make a single dumbell that's up to 36 pounds with this set. If you need a pair, then you can buy additional standard weight plates. Unfortunately the deal is dead though.

Bought this during covid, my advice stay away, they are not durable and the bars bend over time. Better to save space at home and add a few bucks more to get better quality product that will last.

How much weight are you using on the bars?
Any recommendations for something better?

It won't bend. There is 8 pounds of plates on each side and this is a 1" steel handle. Even if you were stack a few more 5 pound plates, I highly doubt it would bend a 1" steel handle. When one is stacking really heavy barbell plates, I can see it possibly happening. I never bent my Weider barbell and I put far more weight than 8 pounds on a side. The Weider is pretty much nearly identical to the highly rated Amazon basics and Cap dumbbell 40 pound sets except for the brand stamp on the plate.

The yes4all has a more modern design flatter edge plates which I would prefer over the roundish edge plates of the Weider/Cap/Amazon Basics but I wouldn't pay double for it. This Weider works fine for me at the price that I am willing to pay. I am using the alllvocles resistance band at the same time with the dumbell/dumbbells to get more resistance. Works really well. I can do so many various exercises now.
