Pretty good for a receiver with all the channel preouts.
I don't see any preouts for top channels?

edit...surround back becomes the top channels and Atmos is limited to two top channels (5.1.2).

I have listened to both Pioneer & Onkyo, was DIRAC better than MCACC/AccuEQ after running RC yes, was it a big difference not really but you can't do a side by side comparison.

Your equipment & room environment plays a significant role with how much also, they will all vary.

So if DIRAC is so good what are you expecting to get from the Anthem AV70 over your current DIRAC AVR for the price?
Certainly, situations( room conditions) may vary
My response was based on all other conditions outside of the room correction being constant
ie..whatever you currently have will be better with better room correction

As for my expectation of Dirac over ARC..it depends on the piece as I could live and be satisfied with either
The Monolith, IMO, is quite the piece for the price but it does have some bugs
The Anthem AV70 is a bit better operationally...so the jury is a bit out . The availability of Dirac on the new Marantz pre/pro caught my attention due to the fact I know the Marantz will likely not have bugs

What do you expect from a better room correction system?

in layman's terms, what is the difference between $1000-1500 AVR and a $500 one? looking at some high level specs they push the same power or about to and have 7.2 channels as well.

Great question. To double or triple the price needs justification. Manufacturers realize when someone purchases their top end units, they are also buying higher end speakers installed in larger rooms. Many times the better speakers have lower impedance, and are harder to drive. To reach the same spl in a larger room, they need set at a higher level. So these units have to run with more current, and most likely more channels. The build quality increases with aluminum face plates, larger heat sinks, and higher end, larger transformers and amp outputs. They also will have larger, and higher end capacitors. Not to mention better processors and DACs. You should also have a bit more control over fine tuning your room with a higher end unit. More connection options, and pre outs for an external amplifier. These units will handle heat better, keep distortion lower, and have a better sound floor - one of the most important qualities of a good amp. That silence between notes. Many audiophiles will tell you as you go up the alphabet with amplifiers, you go down in sound quality. And that comes with managing heat. Your better surround receivers will manage heat the best (even class D sub amps get hot), keeping distortion to a minimum. (Tube guys - I hear you, but you still need to stay under 1% even if you're only running at 10 watts).

Would really like to replace my Onkyo 808 with a comparable new model, but boy is it hard to find a receiver with multiple 4k/120 inputs and 3 zones without spending a boatload.

Need your recommendations/perspective.

I have a 5.1.2 set up in my media room. Def tech PB9060 front towers(2) , Def tech CS9080(1) for center channel , Def tech SR9080 for rear surrounds(2) and sonance MAG 6 ( the ones from Best buy ) (2) for in ceiling ( Atmos ). My room measures 13 ft X 17 Ft and 10 ft vaulted ceiling.

I currently have a Yamaha Aventage RX780 AVR, and been thinking about upgrading to Marantz Cinema 50, but holding off because of the hefty 2500$ price tag. This Deal seems to be good for value, however I am confused a bit on if I should grab this deal for my set up or is it worth the extra 1500 $ to go for the Cinema 50.

For me the XT32 + Editor app I can pretty much do what DIRAC main advantages do. No way worth the high cost for me(and others).

For $200 you could get Audyssey's X which performs better than DIRAC/ARC but it is not for the faint of heart.
TBH it would be overkill for almost everyone.

IMO if you're buying an expensive receiver that includes DIRAC for it to improve what you hear.
You should make sure your equipment & room environment is optimal because it won't fix that.
If it isn't, money is better spent on that 1st because that will make a much bigger improvement, there is no free lunch.

Not a bad deal, but I REALLY wish more receivers would support wireless rear speakers.

Even most that do generally support wireless speakers don't support wireless surrounds.

Ugh!
Wireless rear speakers would require a wireless speaker audio standard which doesn't exist today AFAIK. Every wireless speaker uses a proprietary communication standard usually on the 2.4 GHz band will play HAVOC on your 2.4ghz wifi. It's why I returned all my wireless speaker combos because it kills my wifi speed due to interference.

On a side note, I can also share my experiences between a Marantz SR8015 vs a Denon 6700h in a controlled environment at a Local Best Buy (Pasadena, CA) as they had a knowledgeable specialist as well as a good listening room that allowed me to do A/B testing on a variety of content.

It took a LOT of intent listening (although I only spent about 5-10 minutes per receiver) but the Marantz definitely sounded "warmer" and more nuanced where I could here the lower frequencies with greater clarity while the Denon definitely had more "punch" in the mid-range. While the Marantz impressed me that I could hear a difference, it was very minute and unless you're sitting down in a quiet evening or afternoon, with a tuned audio listening enviorment, you'll never hear the difference. If you're trying to get an optimal movie experience, you'll be too focused on the video content than to ever hear the audio differences between the two.

If you spend time relaxing, reading a book or just resting on the couch with a refreshing music track, then yes you can hear the difference between a Marantz / Denon.

For reference I'm currently running a 7.1.2 setup with a Klispch RP-8000F bi-amped for music, with Klipsch Pro-18RC ceiling speakers that I had put in the ceiling as the home was built. I would probably do my house a little different (use ceiling speakers only Atmos/Height channels) in the future and have speaker wire for bookshelf speakers in the future but I'm still greatly enjoying my setup today.

I've been continually upgrading my setup over the past 2 years [discordapp.com]but current configuration is pictured here [discordapp.com].

Still looking to upgrade my Denon 6500h to a 6700h or newer since my current receiver cannot do 4k 120hz.

Couple questions:
What is the Aventage not giving you(wrong with) that makes you want to upgrade?
What does the 50 give you that this doesn't with your current setup?

Thank you for the reply.
The current limitation with the Yamaha AVR really seems to me is the audio output.. I heard the same speakers in bestbuy and those sounded a whole lot better and fuller. so I guess What I am looking for is to get the maximum and best audio that the speaker can produce and over all have an immersive sound.

Get a separate multichannel amp and use preouts. Larger full range rear speakers also help if you like multichannel/immersive music, rather than just movies.

My experience with those speakers, they do like/require more power than their specs say they do..
Unfortunately I don't think the 780 has pre outs for your LCR which are the ones that like/require the extra power more or you could have tried an external amp.

Ive heard those speakers with a Yamaha 1080 & Denon 4700 an Outlaw amp. IMO if you listen at higher levels the external amp might be worth the investment.

Marantz has a softer sound mixed with bipolar design of those Def Tech's might not be the best combination IMO.

Sound is subjective & just my impressions so take it with a grain of salt.

What receiver did you use at BB?
