Unless I'm not understanding the deal, you can buy $100 worth of full-price gear, get your 15% off using the REI cc, and still get a $20 GC. You just wouldn't be getting any cash back on the $20 GC purchase. So you pay $85 for $120 worth of gear ($120-$20GC-$15 cash back) versus $102 ($120 - $18 cash back) without this deal.

Went with a nalgene 1oz container for just over a buck. It will get used. Dish soap or some other cooking need or toiletries.

If anyone else needs a filler.

I needed $0.07 to hit the threshold.

Bought 4 a couple of months ago....I put spices in them....

So the REI credit card always gives 15% back? Is it cashback, discount at the register, or is it future cashback only useable at REI?

Or $1 more for the roll. Good stuff to repair rips. A lot of other Gear Aid products for a few bucks that make for good filler items.
Sporks. Always go with sports. Great (?) gifts and good for when you haven't done the dishes in a while at home. Outta forks? Spork. Outta spoons? SPORK.

Sporks.

I think it's 5%.

Hope not. Manager says they set a record for sales at that particular store last year. Demand has been high since pandemic due to more people wanting to do outside recreation.

It's 10% back on full price items for all members with or without a cc and then 5% more on anything discounted or not with the CC, so 15% on full price items with a CC

Anybody know when they usually have their 20% off one full priced item? I remember it's a few times a year usually.
I think this typically happens in March, May, and September?

Ok, i get you. I was calculating iteratively, sorry. If you're a member, the cc only bags you 5% more. Becoming a member (lifetime single charge) is a no brainer imo (heck this deal alone returns 2/3rds of the cost!) if you shop there for serious camping even every 5 years. Card only made sense to me if I was buying their travel packages… ymmv of course.

Worth mentioning the cc reward is immediately available afaict but you have to wait until the next calendar year to spend the member reward at REI.

Great store but I don't camp much and bought the membership to get discounted repair on my bike. The mechanic gave a quote and when I asked how much would it be if I was a member he told me that it was the member rate. Disappointed in the dishonesty because I always had great customer service at the store.

Well dang. I ordered a bunch of stuff yesterday. Unsure if I should reorder and return eventually.
I would talk to customer service. I had done this before and they ended giving me a normal 20% gift card.

I'm starting to feel like this might be the year of outdoor equipment deals galore.
I work for REI and have been watching their prices for 3 years now. I think you're right.
