would these drill bits be compatible?

https://slickdeals.net/share/iphone_app/fp/795553
Yes and those are a great deal. If you're just going to be driving screws and not drilling holes this is also a great deal: https://www.directtoolsoutlet.com/product/AR2040
FYI, I pre-drill a hole for everything now. I've cracked far too many boards because I drove a screw into them without a predrilled hole so I just always do it now.

What's the difference in compact vs normal size? I like the idea of it not being giant and bulky. I just need it for basic stuff.

Everyday it seems like some Ryobi tool is on sale. Either the brand is not so good or Tools Direct is aggressively clearing their stock.
It isn't just them, sales in general has slumped with the worsening economy and future outlook is further worse. Many entities are looking to move inventory now and will aggressively drop prices to do so. Even walmart is showing a drop in sales when they usually increase sales in worsening economy. Heck, a lot of places like bed bath and beyond are pushed into bankruptcy altogether.
You should see deeper price cuts for the next year or so as entities get even more desperate to move inventory. Buckle up boys and girls rough economic times are here. Good luck may everyone get through this to the better times ahead.

Just as the description suggests, compact, as in smaller than normal size. In all reality 99.99% of most people's drill tasks can be met by compact units even if they are not as strong as the uber models.

Pre drilling a smaller hole for screws has always been good practice. We just have lost a lot of skills as a community and are rediscovering good practices. Heck it's also better to pre-drill a guide hole before drilling a larger hole. Drilling a small hole first wanders less so when you drill the larger hole it's more centered. This is the same reason why "pilot point" drill bits work better than regular bits of the same size.

If you're looking for the brushless impact driver too like I was, HD has a promotion for $30 off $129 or more, making the set $99. I went with that for the convenience of local returns if needed. https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI.../313438682
Damn does this mean the free tool sales are done? It makes it so confusing!!! I think the free tool sale was less expensive than this spend for $ off though?

I agree. You can't discount that these are brushless and pack more punch than even some bigger brushed motor models. And these new generation Ryobi equipment is far beyond what they used to be

Just go impact driver or hammer drill. I see no reason they should even be selling normal drills anymore.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can't change the torque on the impact, no? Isn't that important?

I'm looking at Hammer drills and something is off about the 2 different prices here:

https://www.directtoolsoutlet.com...ct/PCL220B

And here:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI.../206666886

Are these different or is Direct Tools overcharging?

Edit: And even the Home Depot one has extra accessories…

There are very few things that can be damaged that badly, and the hammer drill usually has torque adjustment and drill/driver/hammer options. Even the impact, once you use it often enough you'll learn to tap it and let off if you need to be careful of damage.
