I can buy and drive my 2022 Ford Maverick 200K miles for the $24K price premium for "Mustang" EV.

The cost of these EV's at higher interest rates, higher insurance rates, and limited range is simply a budget buster for the average working person.

EVs are currently a rich person's toy.

and as a consumer I thank them for beta testing a product for us. Can you imagine what would have happened if no one bought the original tesla roadster...

Musk and Tesla are no saint either but at least the pricing is transparent and you have the EV charging network to back it all up. still, that Tesla lack of build quality for the asking price....
Yes the Tesla build quality and fit and finish... austere and cheap feeling... and decisions like why on earth would you not also include a driver display (3 & Y)... on cars this expensive the extra cost would maybe be $400... completely ridiculous decision and it makes the interior look plain & dorky as well.

and getting back to build quality then there's the creaks and rattles that invariably come up in most, among many other similar build quality issues.

you may be one of the lucky ones that gets one with few problems but that's not the common experience. Tesla has incredibly inconsistent build quality / massive quality control issues. and they seem to just not care that much, because these types of issues have persisted for many many years.

On Friday there was news about the House of Rep passing a bill about closing the loophole of the tax credit. At the moment IRS procrastinates and has not advised about tax credit treatment of vehicles in 2023 yet, which allows that maybe a credit will be available for such vehicles not compliant to the Inflation Reduction Act. However, the House will act and will close that loop retroactively from Jan 1st. Do not expect the $7,500 for that Bolt. It has to be sourced and assembled in North America. GM doesn't have such a vehicle in the retail yet. That's why the list of vehicles says "...you MAY qualify for a tax credit UP TO....".
Half of the credit is for assembly in North America and the other half is for battery component sourcing. The Treasury said they won't be able to issue guidance on battery component sourcing until March so in the interim that portion of the credit is available.

So at least half of the credit is secured if for some reason something like this was to pass. You might have heard that laws have to go through the Senate and President though?

Source? Last I heard was coal-baron Manchin was proposing this, but it was shut down by a Mich senator, because "why are you trying to mess with my state's auto sales?". So your credits are safe folks.

Agreed, and the $7500 tax giveaway to fairly wealthy person is backwards.

In 2009, I couldnt get an $8000 first time homebuyer credit(on a $450K house) because the income cut off was $75K.

Now a single person has to make around 70K to get the full $7500 rebate on a $55K/$80K car/Truck.

Because you want a car that's not falling apart and gives you better value for money?
So Tesla slashed their prices.

When looking at EV SUV, no other manufacture has a comparably performance / range offering for a cheaper price.

The hyundai, kia, volvo, audi are 60k+ in a comparable trim with no tax incentive

ford/VW are slower with less range, and still more expensive

So Tesla, as of today is the best value for money buy. On top of being the best speed / range wise. And undoubtedly best infrastructure. Chargers everywhere, chargers are maintained and are not constantly down.

I am not a fan of Tesla or Elon. But for EV, after the price cuts, the clear choice when it comes to price and other EV considerations is Tesla by a mile.

If spending 50k+ on a car which doesn't even have proper trim and fittings sounds like a good investment then go for it.

Tesla was the only choice at one point. Now there are much better options available.

No comment on the deal, but that Ford put the Mustang badge on this thing. 🤡🤡🤡 Just how?
I hate it. It's totally marketing exploitation. Reminds me of when they put Mustang on that redone Pinto in the late 70s Big Grin

They should have called in the E-Xplorer or E-dge or E-scape....something like that.

comparing the Mach E vs the Model Y, I know the range is shorter for the Ford, but at a starting price of $7-$10k less, I'm seeing the Mach E as a better value. Was considering a Tesla but now planning to test drive the Ford. Thoughts?
