I have a reservation for an f150 lightning that is valid for ordering… but Ford did the greedy and raised their prices TWICE (once for the "supply chain" issues and another time bc the 7500 credit came back) AND I can only order the top 2 trims… which are a MINIMUM of 85k with extended range .
I don't even really WANT an f150… but if it has v2g it might be worth it. But not 85k worth it. When I originally reserved I thought that I would be able get an xlt w/ extended range for like 60K.
I was wondering if a Mach-e would have the v2g… at that price I'd trade in my bolt.
I come here to sigh and lament about humanity's fate.
Arguing with anyone on a Tesla, or ostensively any E.V. Thread in general, is just an exercise in futility. You're just much better off running head first into the closest brick wall multiple times, then accusing that wall of libel, ethnic intimidation, and first degree assault. After getting super angry at the brick wall, go hire a lawyer to sue the brick wall for damages. Both scenarios are basically the same, lots of wasted time and effort, with little to no effect. Teslas lovers aren't going to stop loving Musk, and ICE lovers aren't going to stop loving their affordable, mass adopted, range anxiety-less vehicles.
These type of arguments have always happened in the past.
60yrs ago it was Ford vs Chevy, 40yrs ago it was Japanese cars vs. Domestics, 25 yrs ago it was pc vs Mac, 20 yrs ago it was intel vs. Amd, 10yrs ago Apple vs Android, and you always have the Radeon vs. GeForce gamers arguing.
Fanboys have always existed, but I've never seen this level of fervent loyalty and devotion to a single movement, cause, man (Musk), and company Tesla.
No man is right 100% of the time. Musk is not a God, but it sure seems that a bunch of people put him up on that pedestal. As is life, the real truth is that he and his company are probably somewhere in between world domination and bankruptcy.
The cost of these EV's at higher interest rates, higher insurance rates, and limited range is simply a budget buster for the average working person.
EVs are currently a rich person's toy.
As for higher interest rates and higher insurance are definitely dependent upon the vehicle and the driver. My interest rate is 2.99% / 60 months for a recently (Jan '23) purchased EV which is below average. My insurance dropped by $18 over the same 6-month period vs my previous ICE vehicle and that included lowering my deductible from $1000 to $500 (required by my lender).
All that said, it's very much YMMV but for many, EV may be financially beneficial.
To get that to a reasonable number, let's say 20k miles, that cost difference would have to be 5 cents/mile, which would be gas @ $4.20 assuming that the price of electricity doesn't change.
Then we have to pay for the car itself. The math just doesn't add up. Maybe if you have some absolute gas or diesel hog truck it might.
If electricity is cheap enough… most people would be well served to have an EV for the 99% of driving they can do within the range of the EV (commuting) or within 1 charge (short-ish road trips). Then if they need to really go further, rent a car for that 1% or the time. 🤷 ♂️
I use my Bolt to commute and for shopping trips around town. We also use it for ~200mi each way trips. Anything longer than that, we will take the minivan or my weekend car. But the "right" thing to do would be to just rent when we want to take a long road trip.

So at least half of the credit is secured if for some reason something like this was to pass. You might have heard that laws have to go through the Senate and President though?
