There are no guarantees in the automotive industry. Regardless of being the first, or the best, or even if you Proclaim "full self driving" capability, even though your company is the only one that acknowledges that proclamation.
The automobile industry is rough, only the tough survive. Some have been doing it a lot longer than others. Toyota isn't just going to stop making 9 million vehicles a year, V.W. Isn't going to cede 8.3 million vehicle sales a year to Tesla. G.M. Is still going to produce 6 million cars next year. People fail to realize, that tax subsidies and tax credits helped Tesla become desirable and profitable, but the free market will ultimately decide, who and what type of vehicles are the best for the masses. A 50k to 100k Tesla any model, is going to be a tough sell to a Walmart worker in Alabama, just like a 70k to 100k Ford super Duty diesel would be a tough sell to a California environmentalist working at Starbucks. Both vehicles will get produced, and sold, but neither will ever be widely adopted by the masses at those prices. EV's will remain a sideshow until price to value say otherwise.
Most gas cars are 12c - 24c/mile in gas depending on where you live and fuel econ. Meanwhile a lot of people only spend 4c-8c per mile in a tesla.
If gas prices reach a high delta and tesla, for once, has inventory they cannot move then they can rug pull the entire industry by charging nissan sentra lease prices for refurbished model 3 and then charge a "gas equivalent tax" of 5 cents per mile. People would have a car that they pay almost nothing for in monthly payments, enjoy cheap prices of electricity, and then only pay tesla for what they use the car for.
Ford can never capture the profit margins from oil companies or its dealers, it needs both to service archaic ICE technology. Meanwhile tesla can capture every penny from every mile driven in their cars, as they own the entire ecosystem.
Teslas can entertain you, but ironically you dont need it with the supercharger network

Surprised why these companies/governments don't just monitor these threads to solve all of our problems instead of investing billions/trillions into research and development.
Mach-E does drive better, has better QC, look is subjective but i find none GT version looks as ugly as Y so that's a wash.
However, March-E at the current price, even before dealer markups and you need to spend time negotiate with the sale person and all those practices, is simply not competitive to a long range Y. the CA route 1 is the closest thing to the Y and it is 58K with a bit less range and less performance. Ford needs to cut the price much more to sway buyers, and if tesla has 65% market share in 2022 when the Y price is higher than mach-E, what made Ford think they can move mach-E now when their price is higher than that of Tesla? and this is before Tesla start mass produce 4680 battery Y.
if ford is seriously thinking about EV (obviously they don't, F150 is where their profit is at, they don't even make any sedans anymore), they have to drop the price more, a lot more at that to get the adaption rate. otherwise it would be apple vs andriod battle: winner take all.
