In 2009, I couldnt get an $8000 first time homebuyer credit(on a $450K house) because the income cut off was $75K.
Now a single person has to make around 70K to get the full $7500 rebate on a $55K/$80K car/Truck.
and getting back to build quality then there's the creaks and rattles that invariably come up in most, among many other similar build quality issues.
you may be one of the lucky ones that gets one with few problems but that's not the common experience. Tesla has incredibly inconsistent build quality / massive quality control issues. and they seem to just not care that much, because these types of issues have persisted for many many years.
So many people whine about Tesla build quality, but I put 29k miles on one and it was great. I bought a Ford EV, and the charger it came with didn't work. 2 months later I still don't have a new one.
The comment had nothing to do with their performance. Plain and simple, the EV market is so artificial due to the multiple layers of subsidies that it would be comical to see what would happen if the subsidies vanished.

No one has anything against electric. Electric cars in their current state are a non-starter. They're not being vetted thoroughly. It's just a bunch of millennials in higher-up positions in companies forcing the issue out of zealotry. You're not allowed to question these cars. They could get one mile a charge and they will still call you an idiot for saying EVs aren't practical. It's nuts.
I'm also getting very tired of the EV fanboys who claim "no one really drives more than 30 miles a day anyways!"
Like seriously, that's not true. Just stop it already.
The average person drives 30-40 miles a day (studies vary) and the average commute is 41 miles (RT). The average person drives 14,263 miles a year. There is a wide spread in the data though; men tend to drive more than women, and the young and very old drive less. The peak group is men 35-54 that drive almost 19k miles a year.
I think what's lost in the discussion is an honest assessment of the pros/cons, and the realization that what works for any given person might not work for everyone, and getting lost in anecdotes vs looking at the big picture.

Some of their price drop was undoubtedly to allow more buyers to capture tax credits, which had price limits, it makes some sense that we don't want to incentivize (via tax credits) buying luxury vehicles, so there was a cap to the MSRP of the vehicles that the credits applied to.,
That said, the price cuts were massive, and companies aren't in the business of generosity. If cars were flying off the shelves, meaning demand met supply, the cuts wouldn't be necessary.

Well, they do SOME stuff, certainly not all, and you probably don't want to own one when it's out of warranty [teslamotorsclub.com]. Then there's the issue of parts [collisionprosinc.com]and service availability [torquenews.com], which is a real handicap. Lastly, what's glossed over is the ability of the owner to do repairs themselves. Not everyone is Rich Benoit with access to a specialized garage.
