I would discourage a novice from shopping at ServerPartDeals since they don't offer support regarding user questions (as their site states). Also, refurb drives should be thoroughly tested at receipt. The terms you listed refer to, in order: logical sector size, secure erase capabilities (via encryption), data transfer protocol (SAS vs SATA), and legacy PSU power adapter. I don't have time to explain all these but will say that consumer drives are 512e SATA. You can ignore the encryption but the power disable pin will depend on your existing hardware. I don't think the savings are worth it for getting just a drive or two and a potential headache compared to retail store w/ full mnf. warranty and open support.

I bought 3 of these with the last Exos deal. But they are super noisy. Lot of clicking. Anyone else feel they are noisy? Or did I get a couple bad ones?

But passed all the SMART tests and integrity stuff in the Synology manager.

It's a long time til BF again, so yeah, I still wouldn't hold my breath waiting. I know about the upcoming size increases too. They're not going to be cheap and they're not really going to drive down the price of 18TB+ much, if at all. Prices simply don't drop that much that fast with hard drives. We can disagree and I'd be more than happy to revisit this once those new 24-26TB drives are available. If by some miracle X18's are prices sub-$200, I'll gladly admit I was wrong. And when that doesn't happen, I hope you can do the same.

BTW, there's plenty of reasons the chia farm is neither a flex nor adds credibility so not sure why you bothered bringing it up unless you don't know better. Whatever the case, it doesn't matter.

Seems the best TB/$ ratio is the 12Tb. For $105 it may not be bad until HDs come down.

my only complaint is the noise... but I have 4 spinning in a NAS. but yea, fast.

Got two of the 14TB's from the deal as well and one died 805 hours later. Very noisy compared to my white label WD's in the same enclosure (have 2 WD's and 2 Seagate).

If you guys are looking at the WD HC5xx, get the L4. Those don't have the PWDIS that make many users either tape or get a molex adapter. SPD gives you one for the 04 models. I have an L4 and 04 in my Terramaster NAS and it works fine, but I bought 4 more L4s for my desktop UNRAID and didn't want to deal with any adapters.
