Thanks for sharing your experience with the shoes.

But the BBB page you linked is not associated with Keen Footwear. It's for Keen.com, which provides psychic services.

But you're right, there are several complaints and reviews about quality going downhill:

With the psychic services, you could predict how the boots would hold up!
The San Jose 6" is a pretty good summer workbook for $65. Won't last forever but last time I sent in my redwings for a re-sole it was around $180.
Based on what re-soles are costing nowadays I'm leaning more towards buy and replace.
Redwings used to be under $100 for get resoled and re-worked, that made it worth doing every couple years. Now at almost $200 it's not worth it.

Keen boots/shoes are some of the most uncomfortable shoes I have ever worn. They're rock hard. I dont know how they have a following. Ill take my salomon or merrells any day over keen anything.

It's a great price on these.
But there's plenty of reviews on Amazon, saying these won't last the season. I'm not sure if it's worth the risk?
Might be good for something like concrete, where you need waterproof and your boots will be trashed no matter what.

And keep in mind that these aren't hiking boots... some of the comparisons that I've seen in reviews just don't make sense!

Remind me of Nazi Jack boots. I'm wearing Keen insulated boots right now. I have 4 pairs, 2 high and 2 low cut and they are my go-to wet/cold weather footwear. I also have a pair of Keen work boots that are so heavy I can't wear them at all (bad knees).

Thanks for the recommendation -- I'll give the San Jose a go. ($60 vs $190 MSRP)

A tip for those browsing the sale: while prices are only shown in cart, you can infer some by sorting the search results.

For folks interested in such things: the Mt Vernon are assembled in Portland. ($65 vs $245)

And on a personal note: despite the mixed reviews, I decided to try the Philadelphia 8". They may not last, but they're half the weight of my Danners. ($55 vs $245)

I'd avoid this brand. I've had consecutive problems with their shoes not holding up and Keen has hassled me and typically initially refused to honor their warranty. Others report similar experiences. https://www.bbb.org/us/ca/san-fra...1116-15018

The top review for keen shoes was made because the customer service rep he talked to on the phone wouldn't approve and send him new shoes right on the spot. I think it's pretty normal for warranties to take a few weeks to work.

Have you noticed the number of companies that don't want the defective item back, but do want proof it was destroyed? Revlon had us cut the plug off a hair dryer and then send a pic of it before they sent a replacement. Smith Optics had me scratch up the lenses of an old pair of sunglasses and send a pic before giving credit to their online store. Overall, I'm good with the concept... saves everyone a bit of hassle.
