I have a portable band saw. What is the usage difference between a metal cutting circular saw and a band saw?

Bandsaw is normally used for pipe, round stock, tubular and right angle and narrow flat stock... similar to what you use a hacksaw for. ... circular is going to be for sheet material such as siding/roofing.

Bandsaws can't cut a 4x8 sheet...the portable ones usually max at around 5". The speed of these vs a portable bandsaw is pretty impressive as well. But the blade leaves a wider cut behind. Also these can do angles easier Smilie

I would like to know this as well, because I had no idea metal circular saws were a thing.

This is a small 5-3/8" basically trim sized saw. Its tweaked to be specifically metal cutting with stuff like a heavy duty stainless steel shoe (no miter adjustment) and a strong 18v motor. The other 5-3/8" saw Milwaukee sells is a weak 12v with a flimsy aluminum shoe for instance. Metal cutting exerts lots of force.
It has a carbide blade with geometry made specifically for cutting ferrous metals. Its still a carbide blade so sure it would cut wood. And maybe you can find a 5-3/8 x 20mm arbor wood blade, itll cut wood even better.
But its depth of cut is only rated at like 2", its a small saw. And you might miss the miter adjustment and the light weight of the actual 12v trim saw if you want to do wood trim work.
Itll cut wood fine, but I wouldnt buy it to cut wood specifically.
It makes very quick CLEAN work of long straight cuts in plate steel or sheet metal. Stuff thats a nightmare with a jigsaw, or rough and tedious with an angle grinder.

I did a carport roof and chose plastic over sheetmetal due to cutting difficulty and chance for error .. I can see this saw being a gamechanger.
