The telescopic one is telescopic. The regular one is not.

What about the performance? I seldom see anyone using the telescopic one when fishing

Oh. Well, telescopic is never better than regular. Telescopic if you're cycling to the lake or by motorcycle. If you don't need the collapsible feature, I like the 7' fixed length one. The longer the rod, the further the cast. 6'6 if you're just looking to fish. But I like 7' minimum.

If you are looking for an inexpensive travel rod for surf fishing that fits in carry-on luggage, this one is great for the same price and can throw 3-4 ounces with ease: HURRICANE MK-806MHSPT Mako 8' 6Pc Telescopic Rod https://a.co/d/3cyhKWG

Any recommendations for reel to go with? Is this suited for inshore (inter coastal) fishing or is one from the post better?

Not a bad price given the cost of importing them these days. This appears to be a rebranded Chinese Sougayliang rod. They've been pretty solid for me since I fish in an urban environment. The 6.6ft one should just barely fit in a backpack.

Having said that, because of the telescoping sections, the rod bend action is not as good as a solid rod or even a two piece, but it's acceptable

These are great telescopic rods. Highly recommend them. For the price, you cannot go wrong. I use mine for fishing while on the road, not for my normal fishing activities.

here is socal, I frequent pacific coast highway often on my motorcycle and carry a telescoping rod in my backpack. I'll pull over when I see a good spot and spend some time fishing. These are great travel rods

looking for a shorter one for small river fishing. I hike trails with lots of trees overhead. Seems hard to find.

We have two of these and they are great. I have one in my fishing backpack for camping, and so does my son. He keeps his in his car at all times. I'd buy another if one broke...in fact...my son did break his (his fault) and the manufacturer gave him a discount on a new one.
