You should know the production of Goretex is one reason why your rain, water, dirt, dust, air, blood, and orange juice is contaminated with PFAS. You should know about the health and environmental risks these products have caused since the 1950s.

I was going to make the same comment. People should not support companies that contaminate our environments and ourselves. Goretex and 3M mainly are slowly killing us and you shouldn't put money in their pockets.

If you're looking for a similar material that's a bit more affordable, Columbia developed a DWR-free 100% waterproof breathable shell material called OutDry years back. I've been using it for a few months in Portland winter and haven't been disappointed.

Yup, I swear I was at a Northface or somewhere, and the tag said "Gore-Tex", but I was pretty sure it was just strips sewn into the seams! (not even the taped method). As usual, when it comes to details, typical sales aren't informed enough to answer (exception being a few enthused REI employees).

I can't find my old OutDry, a heavier grey-ish (Titanium?) I picked up at a/their outlet store. It was a fortunate lark-buy, not bothered by that inside-out sheen-grip look being unusual back then. Label said permeable (silicone-encapsulated thread does the beading/venting), good enough for CA. Mine probably pre-dates the Eco version's PFAS/PFC-free materials.

Nice! Love that rain forest nestled around micro-climates. Portland / NW territories is traditionally the Wet-Test-of-the-West, but CA Bay-Area stole your rain last month. Thanks, but please, you can take back your atmospheric river now.

REI used to sell their own branded jacket like this for about $200 but they discontinued them.
Reminds of the Spyder deal from 6 years ago where lots of people scored their jackets for 75% off.
That spyder sale made my decade and set a high unachievable bar that has yet be reached since! :-D
