the REL is noticeably better when playing music. but when watching movies, it's hard to tell them apart. in the case of the 1508, it takes XRL cables and has a passthrough XRL, which is a huge plus. the lower models unfortunately do not.
in the appearance department, i think the REL is better too. SVS has the wood finish and the glossy piano finger print magnet finish. neither of which really works with most furniture. this REL sub is black but not glossy. it looks great
i like my 1508 so much that i just bought the 1205 sub from this sale for my summer house. i'm not even cross shopping at this point. i really like this brand.
With the current sale, the REL is punching well above its competitors at their respective deal price points (you're looking at the SVS-SB1000 at $400 and Monolith by Monoprice M10 at $450).
This would be a different story at normal price points, with more folks on the internet seemingly going for SVS or Monolith, but personally, if I didn't already have my sub setup and was in the market for a sub, I'd definitely go for this deal.

This is like audioquest selling $1000 stereo cables. Means nothing.
I've directly compared the REL with a Rythmik E15SE, SVS SB-2000 and Starke SW12. The Rythmik was the winner (as it should be), with this REL second, SVS third, and Starke fourth. If aesthetics are a factor I'd swap the REL and Starke around though.
After going through some time reading, the Rel subs on these are of gen 1 and currently they got gen 2 which seemed to improve over gen 1 and they are about to release next iteration. Gen1 is end of life cycle. If I am buying, I dont want to buy old and dying line. So I went with latest rsl.
Anyway, I didnt buy and compare side by side. I bought RSL woth wifi adapter for $500 (no tax) and happy with its sound and done with it.
Just sharing incase I someone is checking on these details on rel.

I personally love them. I have them set up in a 5.2.4 system used for gaming, movies, and music, and I have zero complaints. I don't run them too hot, but I can definitely say that they have the ability to make themselves known if you want a bass heavy mix vs. a more blended sound.
For music, they do an excellent job of blending in and work great for a variety of musical tastes.
If you want them to hammer, they can. Opening scene of Blade Runner 2042, Ghostbusters Afterlife, any of the more bombastic FPS games on Xbox or Playstation. All sound great.
I also purchased a pair of Auralex Sub platforms to uncouple them from the floor because this room is a vibrating mess. I can definitely recommend buying those as well, vs. using the included feet.
My room is 10x12 so it's on the small side, which probably helps them out a bit. I don't know that they'd have the same level of slam in a bigger room, but that's pure conjecture.
$1,099 for the Monolith M-15 v2.
I'm still waiting for a replacement for the one they sent me though. Dead on arrival.
"Haters gonna hate cause they an*s!"
It's a badass sub. For the Price, you cannot beat.
Sealed subs are great for music. Guitar amps have tiny magnets and cheap stamped baskets for quick response.
Did you know REL rates their lower frequency at -6dB. No one does that. Do you know why? Because no one would buy their subwoofers for HT if they posted that rating at -3dB.
They have a good product. They need to lose the NASCAR advertising. It's tacky, especially on the feet and top.
These are very fair prices for a great sealed musical subwoofer.
There isn't gold or diamonds in these boxes. Just a well measured, sealed box with a basic amp and lightweight driver.
You have no idea what you're talking about.

I just purchased both of these and I give the edge to RSL.
