Amazon will credit you right away with the 20% off and gift card credit. Just click on the link to submit your trade in and fill out the auto form. Once you put the new Kindle in your cart, you'll see the discounts. If they don't receive the old one within about a month, they'll charge your credit card back for the discount.
As much as I want a new Kindle to replace my 2016 Paperwhite, I feel like the user experience is the same and there's no real value in upgrading. I had this same issue with getting a new iPhone. There hasn't been any new innovations worth it for me since eSIM.
I was just looking to see if they had a model with the 3 things I want that my hand me down OG Paperwhite doesn't have - wireless charging, auto adjusting brightness, and waterproof. They are offering $25 for my paperwhite so it goes from $189 to $114. Do I really need it? Of course not, but it's really tempting.

Edit: I misunderstood that it was 20% off plus a $25 GC. So it went from $189 to $87. I had to pull the trigger. Thanks OP!

Good deal, thanks! The agave green and denim blue non-signature version is also on sale, 16 GB and$109.

I went with this one, as I don't think I'll use the wireless charging. The other Signature upgrades are more minor ( auto- brightness, 32GB)
I would pay $129 for this to remove the ads here, making it only $10 cheaper than the signature which is already ad-free I think. Good deal if the ads do not bug you.

What did you trade in to get it down to 59?

This was under "See how it works", stating that the 20% and GC will be applied to the account after the device has been inspected and accepted. Did you order with a trade-in recently?

"Once your trade-in is complete, an Amazon.com Gift Card equal to an appraised value of your old device(s), plus a promotional discount towards any new qualifying Kindle e-reader, will be automatically applied to your account.Promotional discount is limited to one per customer."

Edit: looks like both shows "apply instantly" when you go through with the process.

I bit. The bundle with wireless charger and cover was $169 and also eligible for the 20% discount with trade in. Thanks, OP!

Anyone know if this paperwhite is any faster than the last model? That's my biggest gripe about the paperwhite - it's so laggy when you click through the library, etc
It is a very common isssue with EINK, but page turning is very fast.

Which bundle is this? All the ones I found were $220+ before trade-in.

You'll have to select the Agave and Denim bundles.

Decided to go for it even though my 2015 PW is only getting a $5 as a trade in. I dislike the lag abd the ads, and haven't been using it lately due to this.

It's the wireless charging that makes it worth the price for me compared to the regular paperwhite. I absolutely dread charging my kindle with a cable.

Getting instant coupons with trade in depends on the account, and I don't think anyone really knows why one person can get it instantly while others have to wait. Luck of the draw it seems

I bought the regular (non-signature) version of this at release to replace my 1st gen paper white. It doesn't have wireless charging or autodimming, but I think the rest of the hardware is the same.

It is noticeably faster, but it is not fast. Navigating the library is still a bit of a slog. Nothing near the experience of using the kindle app on a phone or tablet.

Saw someone on the subway with one of these yesterday - it's def big, you can write notes on the page too (at least on her model) which is a cool feature

I used to buy Ring doorbells off Amazon for my security business now they don't let me buy and doorbells or kindles anymore. They say I've reached the limit even though I have never bought a kindle. Interesting business model.
