True, but it's pretty nerfed compared to R6 II. No IBIS,only one card slot, shorter battery life etc.

I got it for $1397 with the 9mm 1.7 lens a couple months ago. This is not a deal with the S5II being the same price.

As a former G9 GH5s owner, I want to share that I moved on to a
Sony A74. Unless you already have Panny lenses, give the Sony
a chance. So happy now camera wise, I could cry happy tears : )

You can get the A7iv for about the same cost. GM lenses, well, are another cost but worth it.

Good, fair post my friend!

" no record to SSD," - Does that mean one cannot use a Atomos Ninja or similar?
Sorry, meant SSD recording over USB C port. You can record on the A7IV externally via Atomos Ninja but no ProRes RAW and many have reported issues with overheating with HDMI output.

With all the full-frame cameras out there and some moves toward the even bigger medium format sensor is this still worth it?
I own the GH6 and have tested it running nonstop at highest ProRes resolution until external battery died or big card filled. It does not overheat and keeps going. It's the same size as a Full Frame camera these days so I would say if you shoot for social media, no don't buy this camera. This camera is for mainly video work as behind the camera. You can also get the new S52 if you want lots of video control and good photos. Thats a true hybrid cam.

I got the GH6 cause I already had some nice lenses for it and bought the 25-50mm 1.7 lens shortly after and that lens is magical. It's so nice that the photos dont need to be edited. Looking at video tests from gh6 and S52, they look alike and GH6 maybe looks better with color.

Personally I think I'll use the GH6 for a long time due to the lenses being smaller and I dont think anyone can tell what camera things are shot on these days. It's more about your personal needs for flexibility. GH6 looks smooth hand held. these days id have ot play with the the S52 and GH6 to make up my mind but the lens weight and size does add up in teh real world.

As an alternative to a real camera or phone, I can recommend the DJI Pocket 2

Colors can be pushed a bit too. The key with these is high-quality ND filters
to get the right amount of light to the sensor as they are very few adjustments available.
have you compared the pocket 2 to something like a GH6 on a bigger high resolution screen? I was debating this due to an upcoming Europe trip for documentary footage instead of dragging al my gear.

Dji Pocket 2 has softer focus. The previous version has better image quality.

If you don't edit your photos or videos and only look on a small screen and post to social, then you're right.

If you plan on doing any kind of real editing, you can't get past physics. Small sensor, fixed aperture lens, etc.

Phone cameras killed the point and shoot and entry level DSLR hobby. They did nothing for actual hobbyists or professionals.

I'd argue that point and shoot cameras (with modern optics and sensors) would still be better than a phone camera. It's the physical controls and the form factor.

Plus, a $150 digital camera is a lot less worrisome to hand off to someone to snap some quick pictures with. Worst case they drop it. If it's the kind with a pancake lens, maybe the lens breaks and you have to buy a new camera. But it's only $150. And at the height of P&S, there were a lot of cheap models for <$100.

Also, the P&S cameras use SD cards. I don't have to worry about phone syncing or cloud bullshit, just a $20 SD card. I run out of space? Buy another SD card or export it all to a computer.

The physical controls are the really big deal though. You can blindly pull a P&S out of your pocket, point it in a general direction, hit the power button and then the shutter button, and you're done. On a phone you have to pull it out, touch JUST THE RIGHT PLACE on your screen to open the camera app, wait for the camera app to open, then touch just the right place again to take a picture.

You're right maybe about 2 years ago. You can be right or wrong depending on things today. You will be dead wrong in 2 years

Run and gun, stabilization. You're going to be hard pressed to objectively tell the difference most of the time. Color science is a whole other topic.
