Pumpkin is often given to dogs to firm up their stools as it contains soluble fiber, which slows down digestion, and it absorbs water. Many dog foods marketed as being for a "sensitive stomach" use it as a primary ingredient.
My husky has a very sensitive tummy and loves these treats.
Whenever my dog is having digestive issues, I give home a scoop of pumpkin in the morning and one at night. Loose stools, constipation, … it doesn't matter, pumpkin does the trick. He's 82 lbs of pure bred mutt and the two table spoons of pumpkin daily is all he needs. Two days later, things are working well.

Ha. I guess tastes very. My dogs seem to like the meat-less Blue Buffalo Health Bar biscuits such as the Pumpkin and Cinnamon flavor. In general I have better luck with the Blue Buffalo treats, be they biscuits or moist bits.
