If you're not sure where to start, Pike Place is the least dark of all these blends but still has some kick, and it's my personal favorite on this list. It's also the "default" blend at Starbucks. Verona is a great dark roast, and I would recommend it over the French Roast. To agree with someone else, a dark roast does make a nice rich iced coffee, however I do like cream & sweet in mine so if you like it black then you may want less strong flavor. Lastly, if it's your morning cup of coffee and you want more caffeine, Pike Place will have more of it than a darker roast because apparently the longer that the coffee beans are toasted, the more caffeine you lose. Lots of words but hope that helps your decision!

It varies by the item and location. Some are not available for pickup at my store, but are at other Sam's Clubs that are not as close.

Unless you go through a 40oz bag every week this stuff is going to be seriously stale by the time you finish the first bag, especially if you bought one of the pre-grounds.

One week? Who told you that? If you store it in a airtight container it should stay fresh for 3 to 4 months. I go thru about 10 ozs. a week.

Generally coffee is considered stale after a week or two. Oof you are adding milk or making lattes etc, imho it doesn't matter. I have bags that are a year old and are fine, imho. Expensive single-origins are a different story, but they are $40+/lb.

Ground coffee starts losing flavor as soon as it is ground. It's really only good for an hour or so post grind. That can be slowed down by air-tight packaging with a CO2 release, but not long enough to get it into distribution and then to your kitchen. Even well-kept ground coffee is only going to be good for at most a month. Just buy whole bean. Even with an average grinder you're going to increase your freshness immensely by grinding right before brewing.

One hundred percent. In the coffee world that's pretty much how they're known.

I work in an independent cafe. Once in a while a customer will come in with a bag of Starbucks beans and sheepishly say they got it as a gift or something and ask if we can grind it for them. We will, but man, usually that stuff smells atrocious. I'm used to the different coffees we grind all day all smelling amazing, but in comparison, to me any Starbucks dark roast beans smell like a mix of yesterday's campfire ashes and weird fishiness.

If anyone is going for this deal and isn't sure which to get, unless you know you definitely like the flavor of Starbucks dark roasts, I would strongly recommend going for the PIke Place. It's the only one I find even remotely drinkable.
