Not a terrible deal if you need it. However the new subcompact brushless gets pretty close to this in terms of power. If I had to guess this is going to get refreshed the same way the sub compact just did.

Models R872071 & R872081

Isn't the Ridgid brushless subcompact torque wrench 250ft/lbs? This is 650ft/lbs. Close?

The subcompact is handy and I like using it within it's limits, but IME it's not "pretty close" to the power of the mid torque.

I have both the previous gen R86011B, now called the "mid torque" 1/2" impact wrench, and the R87207B subcompact 3/8". and I disagree with this. Recently compared them when I did some work (CV axle removal, ball joint, struts) and the subcompact set on full power failed to remove some fasteners that the mid torque easily and quickly removed.

The new half inch version is putting out 400+ ft lbs, I can't remember if it did 450 or not. Its not 1:1 - but I think it's safe to expect the same gains when the refresh this model. Maybe this one will be above 700 ftlbs.

The new model says "Sub-compact brushless" on the back of the drill, not just "sub compact". Models R872071 & R872081

Unless you just purchased the sub compact you have the older model that is weaker. The new model says "sub-compact brushless" on the back instead of just sub-compact. Check out the video in my last reply.

Interesting video. I'm guessing it'll be more than $80, but it does look to be a nice impact wrench. ETA currently $189 at HD with 2 Ah battery and charger.

I wasn't aware of this new release and as mentioned in my post I have the R87207B so that's what I'm comparing it with.

So specs show 250 ft/lbs on HD and with 2 4ah batteries is a smoking deal if it really handles 400+.

His video shows it removing a nut tightened to 500 ft-lbs, but failing on 550. Even though he strays from a sound scientific method, the results are pretty damn impressive for such a small package.

So the new subcompact is underrated by double it's stated power? Unlikely because Ridgid could just advertise it as 300, 400 or 500 ft lbs.

Torque Test Channel rated the old version at around 150 ft-lbs. Not sure what's new with the new version other than light position, but yeah, that other guys methods probably leave a bit to be desired.

I'd like to see someone do the math and figure out what the theoretical max torque could be of something with that small of a hammer spun with that small of a motor. Sheldon?

I doubt it's stronger than the DeWalt atomic 20v impact that was on slickdeals a couple weeks ago. I think that torquetest channel got like 317 ft lbs max out of it, and it's rated at 450 ft/lb breakaway.
