Hated is probably not the right word, but disliked for sure. I don't know if Walmart sells travel tours abroad or something, but probably a third to half of the americans you'd encounter abroad are the loud, obnoxious, self entitled ones. So it's not like foreigners see 1 in 20 and make conclusions. It's more like 1 in 3. And of course we americans are generally so full of ourselves and think our shit don't stink, we're oblivious to how someone may not *love** us .
With that said I've bought similar tourister suitcases and they more often than not last me a long time. So for average Joe on a budget - not a bad deal if you need a 4 set.
Question. I saw a comment about this not having a spinner and that was a deal breaker. What exactly about a spinner makes it so worth it? Is it really so much more convenient than leaning it over on two wheels and rolling it that way? I've never had one, so not sure I've seen the benefits, but also have never seen a need for it.

Spinners are really nice because you can roll them while they're standing upright. The increased directional mobility is also nice when they're dragged at an angle (less likely to flip over if you turn sharply). I still use both on trips, but over time, I can see replacing the non-spinners and not going back. I think it comes down to how particular you are about convenience.
Never mind the wheels. The big piece isn't even lined. Theres multiple hex nut bolts sticking out. The way the baggage handlers throw luggage I could easily see how your clothes could be damaged
Given the high risk of your luggage being stolen by presidential appointees (at least those not flying private while on their way to preach the eco doom message), this isn't such a bad deal.
Additionally, higher quality luggage signals to baggage handlers that your luggage is more likely to contain valuables worth stealing than does a cheap set of luggage.
I bought five individual pieces from American Tourister years ago. The two small kids sized and one smaller carryon don't have spinners. Medium and large one do. They've been used and checked on 10+ trips so far, big one loaded to 40-45lbs typical. So far, other than getting a little dirty (one is checkered white and blue so it shows dirt, but is super easy to spot), they're functionally as good as ever. No issues with zippers, no tears, no sign of any problems.
I do see what someone mentioned about this one not being lined so entirely possible these are a lower end of their offerings. Mainly just noting they have at least some decent options that hold up relatively well.
It's funny too. Because if you travel internationally you will see that EVERY country is full of total snobbish idiots as well as dummies. Americans just have some sort of guilt trip going on lately so they let everyone pretend they are the only country of people capable of being oblivious as they go through life.
TravelPro is probably the best value I have found. They do have some lower quality ones that they sell through BJs which are not good. I buy direct through their website.
Their Walkabout series at Macys is a good compromise
I got these similar line in the past (but fieldbrook II), they were trash and flimsy. I had to return them fortunately it was Amazon and easier to return. Don't believe the brand name, these were low quality cheap ones. I don't know why American tourister spoil their reputation with this filmsy stuff.

Once I started using spinner, I started hating myself for not knowing earlier the difference between 2 wheel and 4 wheel. Now i'm not bringing home a 2-wheel suitcase even if it is for free. That is how much i dislike 2-wheel ones.

Traveling to your destination is enough of a headache as it is, I always recommend spending up for decent set of luggage if you're travelling by air.
Although, traveling by car/bus this set will do the job as they won't get beaten up as much.

TravelPro makes great bags, wish we saw deals for them
Are Americans that much hated?
Unfortunately it's always the loud trashy ones that ruin it for the rest of us when going abroad.
