Target will be selling the Apple Watch Series 8 for $70 off starting at $329.99 for 41mm & $359.99 for 45mm on Sun 2/5 thru Sat 2/11. Ad only shows GPS model, but discount will likely apply to cellular model as well.
RedCard holders can always save an additional 5%.

Makes the 41mm 8 GPS series only $30.57 more than the comparable 7 series from the target sale price. IMO, that's worth the extra money simply for the increase in resale or trade in value down the road.

The differences between Series 7 & 8: (otherwise, they are identical)
Crash detection - 8 has it, 7 does not. (Although, if you have an iPhone 14, that already has crash detection… in fact, crash detection is the only real difference between an iPhone 13 and 14!)
"Women's" cycle tracking via temperature - 8 has it, 7 does not.
Neither of those functions mattered to me so I searched for the best deal on a 7 or 8 with cellular.
Cellular function - I do not plan to turn it on immediately. You can ignore the function and use the watch just like one without cellular. But in the future I plan to turn it on so that my phone does not need to be within range of the watch. The watch becomes a free-standing phone, even in the absence of your phone. The MSRP a price difference for the cellular feature is +$100.
So the Walmart deal, at $329 is a $100 better deal vs the Series 8 without cellular at $330… actually $130 better since the MSRP upcharge for the 45 mm vs 41 mm is +$30. The MSRPs of the 7 and 8 are identical.
41 vs 45 mm - note Walmart is only shipping the 45 mm version of the Series 7 with cellular, for $329. While they show the 41 mm for $299, it does not appear to be shippable… and therefore, you'd have to get a sloppy Target chat agent to get a price match. Around us, Walmart never stocks Apple Watches in store.

Series 8 was announced/released in September. I believe this upcoming sale price is what the Series 7 also sold for when on sale in February 2022 after it came out in Oct 2021.
