Chase Freedom card 5% off category for Q1 2023 includes Target as well. So no advantage of paying with red card over that one for this deal.

Makes the 41mm 8 GPS series only $30.57 more than the comparable 7 series from the target sale price. IMO, that's worth the extra money simply for the increase in resale or trade in value down the road.

for those with access to AAFES/shopmyexchange they have it for the same price so you'll save on tax.

Depends on your needs.

The differences between Series 7 & 8: (otherwise, they are identical)

Crash detection - 8 has it, 7 does not. (Although, if you have an iPhone 14, that already has crash detection… in fact, crash detection is the only real difference between an iPhone 13 and 14!)
"Women's" cycle tracking via temperature - 8 has it, 7 does not.

Neither of those functions mattered to me so I searched for the best deal on a 7 or 8 with cellular.

Cellular function - I do not plan to turn it on immediately. You can ignore the function and use the watch just like one without cellular. But in the future I plan to turn it on so that my phone does not need to be within range of the watch. The watch becomes a free-standing phone, even in the absence of your phone. The MSRP a price difference for the cellular feature is +$100.

So the Walmart deal, at $329 is a $100 better deal vs the Series 8 without cellular at $330… actually $130 better since the MSRP upcharge for the 45 mm vs 41 mm is +$30. The MSRPs of the 7 and 8 are identical.

41 vs 45 mm - note Walmart is only shipping the 45 mm version of the Series 7 with cellular, for $329. While they show the 41 mm for $299, it does not appear to be shippable… and therefore, you'd have to get a sloppy Target chat agent to get a price match. Around us, Walmart never stocks Apple Watches in store.

I typically upgrade every 3 cycles on Apple Watch. Currently have series 6 and am happy with it. Any compelling reason to upgrade to 8 instead of waiting for 9?

Yeah if you don't want to wait, go grab one at target and price match with Costco. You can do the same thing at Best Buy. You'll save $5 for Costco shipping. But if you have a target card you'll save a little more.

I bought one last night because I didn't want to wait. The store clerk grabbed one for me and he pulled up the Costco price on his handheld thing and price matched… go in store, they'll do it.

Probably not. And keep in mind that having the cellular will cost you extra per month on your cell plan.

As a matter of fact, I just picked up a new Apple Watch 7 today from Best Buy, from a deal here last week, and it was the cellular model, but I'm not even going to activate the cellular part and I'm just gonna use it like I used my previous Apple watch without cellular.

Definitely. Series 3 was far inferior to the 4 and later. For those that have a series 6, I would wait, not much gain from 6 to 7 or 8. 4 and 5 are debatable, those are still very good and replacing them is not quite as necessary as the series 3.

I got myself a apple watch se gen 2 cellular 44mm from tmobile this week for 129 dollars plus service. I leave phone at home over the weekend without having to miss the calls. also i go to gym without phone.

Up to you, but the cellular version can call 911 even if you don't have a plan enabled for it.
