The tool itself is good not their best saw but should enough to cut beams granted you don"t force it and use a good blade, now could you get a better deal yes but either using a rare hack or maybe being lucky enough to be at the right time and place to find one, maybe Black Friday if you wait but then it would be price/time or convenience(now or later)

co-workers actually have both one has compact xr and the other one has none compact, anything pallet like wood or 2x4, 2x6, and even thin aluminum they pretty close if I had to say what different is on thicker material and metal compact tends to have more vibration but being to swap directions is super handy and make some cuts safer

I still using my old Dewalt XRP
NiCad Recip Saw with a Dewalt lithium battery Adaptor that I leave attached to the saw! All my other cordless Dewalt are brushless 20v but my old XRP still kicks like a mule!…lol
