100amp is good for light sheet metal. But stick welding on light sheet metal is a real challenge. I wouldn't try that. And I've been welding over 60 years. Currently own three oy-acetylene rigs, two MIGs, three sticks.

I don't have this model but a much more fully featured YesWelder model and it's a quality welder. That said, I bought it during a "limited-time" Black Friday sale two years ago that as far as I can tell has been running perpetually ever since; only the holiday or other occasion has changed. This is most likely a paid placement like many so-called deals here, so nothing to panic-buy your way into. It'll almost certainly be this same price tomorrow and next week and on the 4th of July and on Frodo's birthday and....

This is the regular everyday price, just search amazon/ebay.
Got one a while back, its small, not much bigger than a loaf of bread but it welds.

Different kind of welding but can anyone recommend an inexpensive but decent spot welder, for occasional use connecting LiOn cells with nickel strips, that maybe take advantage of smart circuitry akin to how the TS100 and Pinecil work and can work off of 45W or 65W USB-C PD power supplies and power banks?
Look on YouTube for videos on how to solder or make lithium power packs. Then use their links to a welder .

Linus tech tips did one, but he ruined all his cells, so I'd probably look elsewhere.

I like My Playhouse.

also pick up a bench charger like he has. you can dial in the voltage and amps you want to charge at.

I'd buy it. This is ancient technology perfected with Chinesium. Seriously a have a cheap Chinese one that I use for installs and I have a welding business. This should be good for 1/4". Inverter technology isn't that new, buts it is better than transformers.

Beaches are THE place to weld. This onenis convenient enough to take on a kayak.

I purchased the 165amp version of this machine and it died only after a few days and it had a very hard time striking a 7018 1/8 rod. Just my experience.

anyone have thoughts on a good beginner welding helmet?

This one on "liquidation sale" at Harbor Freight seems pretty good. Not sure if it's better/worse than the YESWELDER helmet for the same price...

Any thoughts on using this for light sheet metal usage? I have some skill in wielding thicker metal with a mig at a previous job. I was thinking about getting this to try a little rust repair on an automobile ? I realize there is a learning curve from something thicker to thin metal. Just wondered if this would be a good option for sheet-metal repair? Thanks

Didn't know welders could get this cheap. What do you guys use ones like this for?
Mostly for collecting dust on the shelf, occasionally coming out to produce porous surface welds equivalent to JB Weld.

It's fine, I've been using the same for about 5 years. It's not a $200 helmet, but it gets the job done. Make sure yours works when you bring it home, I've had one that was DOA.

I would not buy a replacement unless you need it. I've never had to replace the lens on any welding helmet, and I don't treat them particularly well. Keep your face out of the spatter and you'll be fine.

more of what to look for. comments have good suggestions but more $$$ https://hackaday.com/2021/06/16/r...ot-welder/
A good starting point I guess but the reviewer wasn't impressed.

I'm sure it's a nice unit with uses well beyond occasional spot welding, but a bit too pricey and large for my present needs. Thanks though.

I've come across a bunch of $50-$60 spot welders that have their own LiPo/LiOn batteries, but that seems kind of silly if you already have lots of power sources, including power banks, and just need the occasional spot weld. That's why I asked. And all these tech channels seem as much about entertainment as usefulness, so grain of salt.
