  • A nice deal considering the 1 year of service included. It could make a nice temporary or emergency phone as well.

Not sure how to clarify it any more. As Oregon14 said, do NOT move SIM cards.

Step One: Activate the TCL and click "I want to keep my number." After you finish the all the steps, the TCL will have your current number and service time added to the service that came with the TCL.
Step Two: On a different day, go into your Tracfone account. You will see your current device now listed as inactive. Click activate and "I want to keep my number" and that will move everything back from the TCL to your current device.
Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear. If you move the service by activating with a transfer, that is totally legitimate and not risky. The only potential risky behavior is just taking the SIM from this phone and just sticking it in another device.
It's on the Att whitelist under Alcatel A3 A509DL.

This made it more clear. Thanks.

You should have waited after 60 days to get the phone to unlock first.
Then port over number. Because now you have a locked phone.
Don't you have to activate the device first before it is eligible for unlocking?

Could one of you or someone help me understand what steps I should take in my situation:
I am planning to give an emergency phone to our middleschooler. I do not have a tracfone account. I currently have a very recently unlocked total by verizon iphone SE 2020 for this purpose with a tel number. I was initially thinking of porting to usmobile or redpocket etc but this seems an even better deal. What are the best steps if I were to buy this plan but retaining the existing total by verizon number on the iphone? Do i first activate a new line with tracfone on the tcl device but indicating it will be a port in for my existing number. Then as i cant move the SIMs, via the online account add the iphone SE to the account and finally transfer the minutes to the iphone? I dont want to mess up so asking ahead. Also wonder if this is even feasible or practical?

thank you!
If it's just an emergency phone, why not use TextNow. For $0.99 they will send you a SIM. Install it and thereafter unlimited voice and texts will be free indefinitely. It's supported by advertising but the ads aren't intrusive at all.

Thanks. I will take a look at your suggestion. However in my experience nothing is really free. There is a price and usually with ads its selling personal information/data to someone. Also really not sure i want my kid to have ads on their phone. But thanks for the suggestion.

Also if anyone has a response to my original question of porting into TF and this plan, please reply. thanks

I don't think 1500 Min/Text/Data for 1 year would be enough for kids If their friends text/call.

When you setup new tracfone phone line, it would ask you IF you want a new number or KEEP your current number.
Just be ready to provide your pin code and stuff from your current cell provider.
You cannot put TCL A3 sim in your iphone.
You will need to get a new tracfone sim. Look up amazon, bestbuy usually under $3. Then contact tracfone, tell them that you want to activate new sim on your current line.

Thank you! So first port when setting up this tcl phone from existing provider. Then using a new BYOP SIM (its actually just a buck in amazon from what i see) setup my existing iphone but at the point i would transfer the tracfone line to this phone and I should retain the 1500 minutes. Can that last step be done online too or do I need to call CS?

Yes we will have to see how far the minutes go but i think it should be fine.

I haven't done tracfone sim transfer. So I don't know.
I know Sprint and Tmobile let you do online --> No need to contact customer service.

Make sure you buy 'bring your own phone' SIM.
It's important that you put the original SIM in the original phone until you get a game plan worked out for this.
Verizon might shut down the line while you're playing around with SIM-swapping.
tracfone SIMs seem to be tied to the phones themselves.

Btw, I would try to have the sim in TCL A3 for at least 61 days. You can unlock the phone for free.
Currently I have a TCL A3 and 2 moto g pure phones unlocked.
Thanks Verizon LMAO.

I was totally in for one - great price just for the year of service / minutes / data. Just transfer from one phone, and then back to the phone I want to keep.

Except HSN is totally screwing with me. First they said I didn't have account, then suddenly I did. Won't allow my billing and shipping addresses to differ, and when I got that straightened out, won't allow me to pay with Paypal.

Zero clue what's happening here, but I gave up.

Yeah, similar situation here. Not sure why they have issues with Paypal. My order went through, but then it was cancelled a few hours later. Such a pain with these people Frown

I even tried it with a regular credit card. If my shipping address isn't the same as my home address, it wants to choke.

I don't have stuff shipped to my house - too many porch pirates. I have stuff shipped directly to where I work.

Thanks. My understanding with verizon was that as well as you start a plan with the provided SIM card, it will effectively unlock on day 60 or 61 (at least in iphones it automatically does, not sure how it works for androids). I wont be removing the SIM for a long time as it sounds tracfone doesnt like SIM swapping. Its just that i may move the line ot the iphone as it will become the primary device for the kid.

To unlock, on the 61 day. You must have original SIM in the original phone.
