FYI, several of my older Echos (Echo Dots and 1st Gen Shows) are showing as trade-in options.

I am in on the Alexa/Ring/Amazon ecosystem but their handlng fo this device pissed me off. They'll literaly cripple the Alexa android app in order to sell ths product. My Alexa app can already do everything this does.. until March 31st, when they flip the switch.

I have the Gen 1 of this, back when I was on the pre-release/beta schedule. Still works awesome. Is there a reason I would want to upgrade?

I was wondering what happened!!! But I have the iPhone. I used to have the app installed in my truck and all I had to say was "Alexa" and I could turn my house lights on when I pulled in the driveway. I'm not paying for this and have wires hanging!

Im still pissed I paid actual money for the first gen. They should give these away to anyone who was swindled by that garbage

That's my question.

Main difference I can see is the *new* model includes the AUX cable, car mount, car charger and breaks up the gen1 device into two units: a mic module and a speaker module.
The gen2 also *appears* to go with hardwired cables (so if they break, they can't be replaced).
But I could be wrong as the images don't are hard to see that area.

Edit: The main complaint I've read from reviews of gen1 vs gen2 is the gen2 *does* have more wires which make it hard for some to hide.

I have a Gen 1 of this and never use it. I got it on pre-release and could never get it to work well. It struggled to hear me clearly in the car while it was moving and it needed a good data connection to have any chance of working properly .
I feel like the phone Alexa app is more than enough to keep me connected to the Amazon universe.
