About the deal:
This matches a previous Frontpage deal from October 2022.
About this game:
The First Tree is a third-person exploration game centered around two parallel stories: a fox trying to find her missing family, and a son reconnecting with his estranged father in Alaska. Players take control of the fox on a poignant and beautiful journey that crescendos at the source of life, and perhaps result in an understanding of death. Along the way, players can uncover artifacts and stories from the son's life as he becomes intertwined in the fox's journey towards The First Tree.
I guess I'm devil's advocate, but after seeing the metacritic user scores and gameplay, I can't see this being worth the time. Frankly, it looks boring.
I trust user scores far more than critics. And a 5/10 user score, is a hard pass. Not because of the trivial money ($1), but because there are better uses of time and in this case, phone memory.
Visually pleasant game. I think this was in the under $20 price range for Switch physical. But when I saw how long the game is (2-3hrs max) I'm like, I'd rather get this as a digital.
Switch/PS has had this lowest at $2. (Dekudeals).
Steam lowest price at 99cents.

True, but sometimes the price plays into that. A 3 hour game costing $20 is going to be rated much lower than a 3 hour game for $1. Price can lead to expectations, and expectations lead to scores.
Reading the reviews can often give much better insight.

I think we're saying the same thing. My comment is based on reading the user reviews on Metacritic. I also watched gameplay videos.
Edit: Re-reading your comment, I see your point. You're saying that these reviews could be written from people who paid higher prices and thus have higher expectations. Admittedly, my reading comprehension could use work 😂

You make a very fair point. Admittedly reading comprehension is not my strong suit 😂
Another perspective thing...
I have much different expectations for a tablet game than a steam game.
Games that I might find very boring on the PC, I might rather enjoy while relaxing with the iPad.
And in VR: A 2/10 RPG might be an 8/10 in VR. Boy do expectations change when it comes to VR. Immersion certainly helps boost those scores.
P.S. I agree with your assessment of the game as well, and I'll probably hold off on buying it based on the reviews I read.
Is it that great of a Steam Game? Not really, but it's cheap and a fun fox simulator with a story/message. I do like the developer's positive attitude about helping indie developers.

How much is 3 hours of pretending to be a fox worth to you? Spirit of the North is a more fun fox simulator, IMO.
