Anyone knows if the free monitoring can be applied as a credit to an existing account?

I do self monitoring through alerts. I had ring monitoring but had a false alarm from cat and police showed up. They start billing you in my area for false alarms (rightfully so). If anything is gonna spook a theif, it's the alarm, not police showing up 15 mins later.

Just to clarify, because I think people might misunderstand - the "interactive" feature is not free - it requires the premium plan, which comes free *for three months*. But you *can* also use the system for free (without a plan at all): that will only give you push notifications on the app, and a siren from the homebase when break-ins are detected, and a 7 day timeline review. No text messages, no cloud storage, etc, and no to lots of other features.

If you want to go the no subscription route ( I did with Abode security system, which is similar to this). I recommend using a separate system for security cameras - there's little reason to have the security system and camera system linked. And there are great no-subscription camera option,s such as Reolink cameras and NVRs.

I tried setting one of these up a couple weeks ago and it was a nightmare. Had to return the first one because the base station refused to connect anything to it. The second one had all kinds of problems connecting, but I got all but one camera to connect. It absolutely would not connect to the new base station. I would stay away from Simplisafe if you are looking for something easy to set up. Go for something like Ring instead.

Lol. Everyone asking questions - read the link I posted above. It answers all your questions. And if it doesn't, google it.
Not sure why everyone wants others to do the research for them.....

They have a 60 day trial, I'm still in my test period. I'm loving it so far. Give it a shot!

Just be warned. That camera is garbage. Just do a search online for "Simplisafe camera disconnected" or "won't stay connected" or something along those lines. YEARS of people with the same issue and yet to be resolved. My camera is about 5 feet away from both the base station and my wireless access point with direct line of sight and it constantly loses wifi connection and leaves me with many recordings that are about 5 seconds long when it disconnects. The strange thing is when it disconnects, I can still ping the camera. Even Unifi tells me the camera is still connected. So who knows what the issue is. There's a known issue where if your Wifi places the 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands under the same SSID and doesn't allow you to separate them under different SSID's, your camera will most likely NEVER connect. I have split off my SSID's and still have random disconnects.

If you're getting this where you REALLY need the camera to work, look elsewhere. Otherwise the rest of the system is pretty decent.

Edit: also to note. My wifi is NOT the issue. I have a nest camera and a unifi camera which I have constantly recording and neither looses recordings or drops connection and both are further away from my wifi access point.

Same experience here with the camera. It's awful with dropped wifi all the time, and it looks like they're still using the same model they've always used. Same for their smoke detectors which burn through expensive batteries every 2 weeks.

should I get this or ring alarm pro ?
It depends on if you want Bezosland to know even more about you than it already does. Ring plays games with the 4th Amendment and other privacy issues like handing over doorbell footage without owners' permission to police.

That's fine, but why tell people to "google it?"
