Digital PS5 makes you have to rebuy any PS4 games you want to play.

I'm still using my PS3 - primarily as a multimedia player (CDs, mp3s, DVD, blu ray).

Does the PS5 support redbook audio CDs? And can it rip to internal storage? I don't really care for games, as I usually use my PC and Steam Deck for that. Or should I consider Xbox One instead?
Same here even play some PS3 games, still fun.
However I think my Disc Drive is slowly dying.

Regarding not being able to play PS4 games on Digital PS5, good thing I never bought PS5.
Since we can't play PS3 games on PS5 either, it won't matter.
I wish they would let us convert the discs to digital copies at least, even with a fee like D2D, maybe $5 per game?

My fellow slickdealers, I am not here to threadcap PS5 digital, but to bury PS5 digital.

It's $100 less for all the limitations by not having an optical drive. Considering that it costs usually $100 more for local storage on most electronics, this is Normal, even fair. Optical is going the way of the dino like Gamestop.

Are the different price points based on BOM bad? Yes. Does skimping on an important part of the device handicap it for certain uses? Absolutely. Does is suck that PS5 Digital FP's on an MSRP deal? Yes, my fellow slickdealers, it does. F'ing covid, amiright?

But if you wanted to scream into the void over these concerns, you should have complained when Apple pioneered this crap with the iPhone 1.0.

So is the optical drive worth $100? Depends on intended use. That's why they called it the Digital Edition. Same product, but all digital, which means optical copies of games no bueno.

Why do you say this? Wouldn't you save money on lowered priced physical games?

Well put. I own a PS4. I don't have an interest in buying a PS5 yet. I'm one of those guys "waiting for the slim." Haha.

I recently purchased a gaming laptop a few months ago, and it brought my love for Halo back, or so I thought. I always told myself, if I ever get an Xbox console, then it would be for Halo. I was one of those guys that played the shit out of Combat Evolved on PC back in 2005. I really did miss it! So I played it safe, got back into PC, and wow I'm glad I did.

I'm not here to talk about how great PC is and the limitless mod capabilities (boohoo Xbox), but I was able to play some old school Halo Games including the free one. Honestly, It gave me this outdated feel. A lot has changed in fact. It feels like there's less people playing now. I guess you can blame the more modern games attracting players, especially the free ones. But man, that would have been a waste of money for me if I would have bought an Xbox just for Halo. I mean if you want to play Xbox games, then just get a PC 😚. You pretty much can get the same exclusives. I played High on Life, a game that's not available on PlayStation, and it was a short and fun game; but again, and not something I would drop 💰 for and get an Xbox. Lol it's on PC!!

I've gone through pretty much every single generation of PlayStation console since the classic one. I originally wanted an N64, but my dad ended up getting me a PlayStation. And I ended up enjoying it!

Sony puts a lot of effort on PlayStation. Sadly, they don't make TVs anymore. You will see TVs with the Sony logo, but Sony stopped officially making TVs…I want to say…15-20 years ago? I believe Phillips makes Sony TVs now. So you can see that their main focus is PlayStation. I know that they have other projects too like the Sony car lol, but we're here for gaming. Sony has made some great exclusives, and yes, you can eventually get them on PC after so many years. I feel that if you want a console solely for exclusives then go with Sony, because all the Microsoft stuff you can get on PC. So there's no need for an Xbox lol. I myself am waiting for the PS5 slim. I'm not in a hurry to be honest. I can play the Playstation exclusives on my ps4 still and all the other stuff on PC.
I didn't know slickdeals was your personal blog. hug

Well up until now I have been a diehard Xbox weenie since the original Xbox came out. I've literally owned every version of Xbox (especially the Halo Editions) but I am not one of those collectors, I always trade them in towards the new release console. I had never played on a PlayStation, never owned one, had absolutely no interest in it at all. I am a former Network Engineer my specialty was in Windows so a Microsoft game console was a natural progression for me. What changed? Microsoft's flat out refusal to do anything VR with the Xbox is not only stupid, it's robbing it's user base of amazing experiences. I had an Oculus Go, Oculus Rift S & I have a Quest 2, they're cool, but not as seamless & immersive as a console based solution would be. I had seen PSVR on YouTube & liked it. Then I found out about PSVR 2 & OMFG 🤯 I was not prepared for it to be that mind-blowingly impressive! So I immediately ordered the PS5 Digital God of War Ragnarok Bundle & Pre-order the PSVR 2 Horizon Call of the Mountain Bundle. I had no idea PS5 graphics were so incredible! It's hard to believe the Series X & PS5 have the same hardware, because the PS5 looks & performs so much better than the Series X in my opinion anyways. Of course I'll have to keep an Xbox, because I've been a massive Halo fanboy since day 1 too.
find that interesting, i normally own all consoles at some point so don't really care, but sony's handling of digital game libraries just raises an eyebrow for me....

especially the fact that the new ps5 vr will require you to buy all the vr games you bought on ps4... that in itself just makes it worthless to me / facebook is doing its best to kill it on pc with htc seemingly focusing it on for workplace use (even going as far as blocking access to steam with the "pro" model)

idk.... tried vr, its neat but the marketplace is pretty much complete trash for it at the moment

not really, if you really want it just need to wait for something to say in stock

that's because pc gamers can simply torrent the games they want, or buy from steam and multiple other vendors with incredibly cheap deals. PlayStation and Xbox users are locked into the consoles 1 storefront and are at the mercy of their overpriced digital downloads. Sekiro is now 4 years old and still not gone lower than 30$ on ps store, while I picked up the disc used from GameStop for a few dollars being savvy with sales/coupons from them when sekiro had only been out for less than a year. I have a physical disc ps5 and have been very happy with it for the 2 years I've had it. Could I have survived digital only, probably, but as someone said you will have to rebuy previous ps4 discs you own to play them again.
Well said except "PlayStation and Xbox users are locked into the consoles 1 storefront" is only true for PlayStation. You can still buy digital Xbox games via Target, Amazon, etc.

I have the digital version. It's been so many years since I've had physical media, and never intend to anymore. I would have wasted $100 getting the ugly disc version. Sure, I may end up paying more for games, but I'm fine with that for the convenience.
