Only difference I can see from this one ($110) and the one that costs ($140) is auto adjusting lights, wireless charging and of course the storage (16GB vs 32GB). So if those are worth the extra $30 then go for the $140 one. Hope this helps.

I think the 32gb version for $139 is a better deal if one wants one, or wait for WOOT! sale.

Does this have enough light to read in the dark? If not does the $140 one have enough light?

I have the 2018 model and that one has enough light for night reading so I would assume these would be the same or brighter.

Haven't tried this model specifically but every Kindle I've used since they started including lights has had more than enough to read in total darkness.

I'm not sure how much upgrading matters on a device that basically just displays text. I'd honestly still be using my kindle keyboard from 2010 with a little clip on light it if I hadn't stepped on it a few years ago, as I preferred turning pages with the side buttons over the touchscreen on the (second gen?) paperwhite I replaced it with a few years ago. The paperwhite was only ~$30 barely used, and I'd actually recommend that most people who are buying an ereader for the first time pick up a cheap used one to see if they'll really use it.

The slightly bigger screen and higher resolution on this model makes it more usable for manga/comics though. That's also the only time I'd say you might want more than 8-16GB of storage, as normal books are only about 5MB -- 200 books per GB. They're also plenty bright, I've never set my old paperwhite beyond 30-40% brightness.

I went with the black 8gb kids version. No ads, extended warranty, and comes with a case. It can also be switched to adult mode and 8gb is enough for my needs. It was around $65 after trading in my 2018 kindle for $30 instant credit.

I also picked up the 8gb kids version. For the same sticker price ($110) It's a good option as it has more warranty, comes with a nice case, and doesn't have ads.

I have this model. At night I use it at around 1/2 brightness and that's probably too bright. I can't imaging using it at night at full brightness.

Just a friendly reminder that contacting Amazon to remove the Ads typically works. I've done it with 3 of my devicesSmilie
