Stanley Kubrick 7 Film Collection

Eyes Wide Shut

Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman star as a married couple entangled in an intricate web of jealousy and sexual obsession in Stanley Kubrick's final cinematic offering. At a Christmas party hosted by wealthy, unconventional Victor Ziegler (Sydney Pollack), provocative advances and innocent flirtations arouse suspicion as high-society physician Dr. William Harford (Cruise) and his sexy wife, Alice (Kidman) watch each other from a distance. Alone later, this seemingly perfect couple confront their intimate sexual fantasies--which don't include each other. Caught between reality and illusion, jealousy and obsession, William struggles with his inner urges. Will he act on his erotic fantasies or keep them hidden deep inside? Sometimes a man can see more clearly with his Eyes Wide Shut.

Full Metal Jacket
Director Stanley Kubrick rips the skin from the face of war to expose the dehumanizing effect of the military on the people fed to its emotional meat grinder in Full Metal Jacket. Through the eyes of an 18-year-old recruit--from his first days in the seeming hell of Marine Corps boot camp as his superiors try to strip of him his individuality and re-create him as a Marine, to the hell of the 1968 Tet offensive, Kubrick reveals the damage done to the collective human soul by the inhumanity of war. Based on the novel The Short-Timers by Gustav Hasford.

2001: A Space Odyssey
A pair of astronauts heads to Jupiter to investigate a radio signal sent from a mysterious monolith on the moon, but their tranquil trip is endangered when their on-board computer begins acting oddly. The simple plot of director Stanley Kubrick's inspired space adventure (co-scripted with noted science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke) belies the profound philosophical implications of this classic film, which inspires viewers to ask questions about the nature of advanced civilizations . . . and of human consciousness. Nearly half a century after its release, the film's groundbreaking special effects are still breathtaking, and its ending still mind-bending.

Barry Lyndon
One of the most beautiful films ever made, and the winner of four Academy Awards including Best Cinematography, Art Direction and Costume Design, "Barry Lyndon" features Ryan O'Neal ("Love Story," TV's "Small Sacrifices") as a rags-to-riches Irish gambler and hero-rogue who moves from innocence to self-destructive arrogance in this masterpiece by director Stanley Kubrick ("2001: A Space Odyssey," "A Clockwork Orange," "Full Metal Jacket"). Rich in drama and decadence, this is a stunning, visually opulent adaptation of the classic Thackeray novel set in 18th century England, that Leonard Maltin praises as "exquisite." Boasting meticulous period details, down to the breathtaking cinematography using what would have been the only artificial light source in the era -- candlelight -- on ultra-sensitive film stock developed specially for Kubrick. Co-starring model-turned-actress Marisa Berenson ("Cabaret").

Lolita (1962)
Oscar-winning filmmaker Stanley Kubrick ("A Clockwork Orange," "The Shining," "2001: A Space Odyssey") directs this dark, comedic adaptation of Vladimir Nabokov's classic novel about a middle-aged university professor who becomes so infatuated with a 14-year-old girl that he marries her mother in order to stay close to her. Starring Oscar-nominee James Mason ("North by Northwest") as smitten professor Humbert Humbert, Oscar-winner Shelly Winters ("The Poseidon Adventure," "A Place in the Sun") as Lolita's vulnerable mother, Oscar-nominee Peter Sellers ("The Pink Panther," "Being There") as a degenerate playwright whose attraction to Lolita fuels a fatal rivalry, and sultry Sue Lyon ("The Night of the Iguana") as the sexually precocious Lolita. Nabokov received an Oscar nomination for his outstanding screenplay.

A Clockwork Orange
Being the adventures of a young man...who loved a bit of the old ultra-violence...went to jail, was brain washed...and came out cured...or was he? In a futuristic welfare state, Alex (Malcolm McDowell), a vicious young hoodlum, sleeps all day and spends his nights roaming the city with his droogs (friends), assaulting innocent people in the streets and in their homes. Finally captured by the police, Alex undergoes rehabilitation in the form of aversion therapy as brutal and horrifying as any of his offenses.

The Shining
Academy Award winner Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall star in director Stanley Kubrick's disturbing adaptation of Stephen King's blockbuster horror novel. When writer Jack Torrance (Nicholson)--who has a history of alcoholism and child abuse--takes a job as winter caretaker for a hotel high in the Rocky Mountains, he, his wife (Duvall) and their psychic young son will be isolated until spring. But once the first blizzard closes the road out, the accumulated power of evil deeds committed at the hotel begins to drive Jack mad. Now there may be no escape for his wife and son in this haunting madness, memory and family violence.
