At this point I refuse to buy 8gb again. I always hear about how it's enough from apple fanboys but really it's not. Having a few apps open along with a handful of tabs slows down my m1 a lot when it has to use its processing power for memory swap. It's tolerable today but for a big purchase like this I'd want to keep it for a few years and 8gb definitely wont be enough at this rate.

Yeah, the only thing I really dislike about Apple is they wait for years to bump up minimum storage and RAM. My 2008 MacBook Pro was 16gb ram and 512 hard drive. They do it so as to have an entry level price point, but come on.

Haha. My MacBook is a 2011 16gb 512 SSD. Still chugging along. the ports are finnicky. And it's annoying because it's airdrop doesn't work with newer devices so no continuity. Still boots fast af, but stopped getting app updates ages ago. And searching for old version of software that's compatible with its version of macOS can be a pain

I mean, you can check email, watch a YouTube video, and do some basic MS Office stuff fine on 8gb. That's probably 75% of the general population. On the other hand, you can do that on a $200 Chromebook, but then how are you going to be part of the cool kids club?

Thats basically all its, Most kids at my school will spend $1000+ to just use chrome basically. They're never running anything and they do all their stuff on google docs anyways. If you wanna do any productivity or content things you need at least 16gb. Id delete the 8gb model from existence just cause it really doesnt do anything, but they know a bunch of normal ass internet browsers will use their devices exclusively for that.

MacBook Pro is not "Pro" anymore, especially with 8GB RAM in 2023.

I could run a bunch of apps with a few windows in each on my 8GB M1 Mini, but when I'm not running all the other stuff and just open a bunch of tabs in Safari/Chrome, I'd drag it down.
