Not a fair comparison to the Omen here.
Ryzen 5 != i7 12700
Missing Power supply, CPU Cooler, GPU

Got one for $1066.36! Should be perfect for my 1440p 32" 165hz monitor, and I already have 16 extra GB of DDR4-3200 ram!

I got this back in sept. For $1250. I upgraded to the corsair dominator 32gig ddr4 pc4 27700. Goes to 3466hz and it runs stable. Motherboard takes that high of speeds. The overclock software that hp has only boots to 3466hz on the stock fury ddr4 3200hz. I did have to sent it for repair cuz of the video card making noise. Besides that is a good gaming pc

MW2 runs for me on a 1440p165hz monitor from 85 to 120fps in extreme
90 to 130 fps in ultra. avarage

As you'll see from that first link in my previous post, there is an entire subreddit dedicated to these machines which is a wealth of knowledge. One other thing to note is that the newest version of the mobo Bios for at least the 30L removes the ability to decrease the voltage under default which people do sometimes to ensure that the CPU doesn't overheat and then get throttled.

My plan upon receipt is to first remove the HP bloatware (antivirus, etc). Run some performance / stress tests and monitor the temperature throughout those with something like HWiINFO, Core Temp, or XTU / Throttlestop, check the BIOS for the XMP / RAM options, but only update the BIOS as a last resort considering that the newest version appears to remove some controls (and can't be rolled back).
thank you so much for both of your replies, awesome information i'll absolutely take advantage of. just ordered one of these as well as it seems to be an insane deal for the power. do you happen to know the exact RAM model these are using? I'd like to get another 2x8 set of RAM for a total of 32GB just for future proofing. any other things you can think of that should be installed/upgraded? hardware or software recommendations are welcome.

Nice! Did you sell your old RAM? I will probably upgrade memory as well.

Looks like you are getting good performance! Do you know what kind of CPU / GPU temps you are getting and do you have the liquid cooling or not?

I see the price of $1,016 through my EPP, which is a perks at work program (HP offering some discount to employees of the company I am working for). The EPP price was $1,066 yesterday, and in a previous comment in this thread, someone got the same $1,066 price yesterday using student discount too, so chances are the student price is $1,016 today too.

I am still seeing the 1016 price through the student discount. Question for those who have this… what ram modules did you get to increase the ram to 32gb?

Thank you, I was able to get $1,016 by using an EDU account, pulled the trigger. It cost $1300+ to build the exact same thing, great saving. Repped.

CAUTION when buying from HP direct. I just got this two weeks ago. Nice machine, no cooling issues. But...
HP will charge up to a 15% restocking fee if you want to return it. Mine was still brand new in the box, unopened and they still will charge 15% restock fee. Just changed my mind and wanted to return it. Happy to pay a return ship fee, but HP was chargning $185 restock fee.
So I decided to wait before returning it. Now I see this sale after I paid more. HP will NOT price match because this is a 'promotion'.
Heck of a deal, but buyer beware in dealing with HP on customer service things like a return or price match. HP does have their policies listed and plenty of fine print to read through for them to say the information is posted. Please look carefully at the terms and conditions.

How do you like it? I'm planning add a 240mm on the side for better cooling

I do like it. The temps for the GPU and CPU are under 60 during gameplay. Plenty of power for my gaming needs. The Omen interface provides good info and allows enough tweaking for me. I have heard BIOS is somewhat locked and using memory not purchased through HP can be a problem. No issues after two weeks. HP's unfriendly customer policies my main issue. If they are this way when you buy it, what 'fine print' will they point to if you have a technical issue later?
