Several things you can do to—

1. Apply sunscreen when going out side. Will prevent further hyper pigmentation (reduces new sunspots from appearing and prevent dark spots from getting even darker). Despite whatever SPF the bottle says, it should be reapplied regularly every 2-3hrs max.

2. Get a prescription for Tretinoin. It's available OTC at lower strengths. Most insurances won't cover Tretinoin because it's considered non-essential / cosmetic, so maybe OTC version is the way to go. This medicine works by increasing cell turnover rate of your skin. Intended to prevent wrinkling, but it has been shown to reduce acne scars and dark spots. It can cause delayed drying so use it only 1-2 per week initially and go from there.

3. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and applying moisturizer. Dry skin delays any healing processes, whereas moisturized skin can promote more regenerative processes.

Yes it is. Moisturizing cream is less "watery" and more greasy.

Gotcha. Thanks for the tip. I'll look for something else.

It's very heavy and not made specifically for the face

I'd look for ones that specify being a facial lotion

I have super dry skin and use Cerave on my face after showering, does wonders for the skin, but yeah its super thick, but it never causes break outs of anything which is great (in fact it really reduces them for me). So is it a casual face lotion, no? But if you need something for dry skin/eczema this it the stuff.

I had facial allergy a couple months ago and my dermatologist gave me some samples of CeraVe and Vanicream. I like the CeraVe and use it on my face regularly now. It is a tad bit heavier than the Vanicream but not too greasy. To me, it retains moisture better but both are good

don't know anything about skin care, but what are some good products to use to prevent and help existing dark spots on the face?

Mr. Google says "Lotions are usually formulated with more water content than creams and are considered lightweight and easily absorbed by your skin. Creams are generally thicker in consistency than lotions and make an ideal choice for people with dry skin on their face or body, or for use during the drier winter months."

I don't think it's greasy compared to Aveeno. Aveeno leaves a slippery/sticky coating on the skin and I feel gross sleeping with it on lol.

I switched to CeraVe and it seems to soak into the skin better without the weird slippery/sticky feeling
