The naming scheme is not helpful… make sure you know the differences between this and the more recent Mario Party Superstar and are buying the one you want.

Agreed! The naming conventions are confusing. I think the other Mario Party is much better

I like the Mario party superstar more, that one is more traditional and contain mini games from previous generations.
Mario party superstar contain only 5 maps, though.

This one seems leaning more towards changing the way of play style, for example it allows 2v2, instead of traditional everyone for themselves gameplay.

Mario party has always been a party style game, the amount of joy diminish quickly if you play with same group of people repeatedly.

Note, This mario party ONLY allows the joycons to be used, thanks to the various motion controlled games. If you primarily use the pro controller, that might be something to consider.

The newer "superstar" version uses any control method you prefer, like side by side joycon arrangement, pro controller, or solo joycon.

Has Nintendo ever announced intentions to add more maps to Superstar via DLC? I love that game but we play so much that the 5 maps have gotten played out lol

I'm wondering the same thing! It seems that this version has more updated features though. Like new maps and options like 2v2 play. Only thing is you need all Joy con remotes to play and a set is a minimum $60 unless you buy generic
