Assuming you're using them for storage and not for things that require a lot of rewrites, they should last a lot longer than conventional hard drives since there are no moving parts to fail. But don't quote me on that.

But honestly, there are better options available if your goal is long term storage.

Thank you for the response. I'm looking for a boot drive that will last a long time. I do a lot of work on Adobe and I believe the drive will be used for temporary files when editing. In the future I plan to buy a larger storage drive but funds are limited and a 4tb ssd is out of range.

what drive would you recommend for the boot drive?

This would be a great boot drive, due to the fast access speeds. It's not a storage drive though, due to the small size. Typically, people buy the a NAS for long term storage or better yet, just store it on the cloud. But for a working storage drive, I guess a standard mechanical hard drive is the most economical. Of course, your boot drive and the storage drive should be separate. If anything, it helps to prevent data loss.

Bought a good ol Samsung 970 Pro 2TB for 120 (open box). The Samsung design is few years old now but aside from the obvious DRAM, MLC benefit of the Samsung and Pcie4 for the SN770... Is the Samsung still the better drive?
