Do you plan to buy more Seagates after the 5 year warranty is over and they die? I don't think I would given the number of failures you had within the warranty period. I've had both WDs and Seagates die on me due to old age, but never within warranty period. 5 out of 12 seems crazy high.

There are also the WD HC530 14tb drives on the site for this same price. I picked them up after watching some YouTube reviews that mentioned they worked better than the Exos for consumer use (less noise, better feature set, etc). I also trust WD more than Seagate, but I understand that's a personal preference.

I do agree that it would be nice if they did not wipe the SMART data. However, there's only so much power-on time the drives could potentially have. It's not like this line has been available forever.

1/5 of the drives I ordered went bad at like 32 days, so barely out of their DOA window. I had to pay return shipping, and they wouldn't advance-ship another drive. I ended up buying another overnighted and just waited on the refund (instead of replacement)

Overall, I'd buy again... still think the cost savings is probably worth it since they cover the drive for 2 years. They're relatively prompt with customer support and ship pretty quick. Might grab one more this morning to keep as a cold spare.
