Status 160 is on sale too, maybe an even better deal if you're looking for more of an enduro model. https://www.specialized.com/us/en...388-199767

Keep in mind these come with pretty low end specs and are quite heavy.

The Expert [specialized.com] and Pro [specialized.com] are also on sale, if that's what you are looking for.

If you have a local bike shop that you like, do them a favor and preferably order it through them (if available) or order it to pick up there or to be delivered by them so they can get a portion of the sale proceeds and stay in business longer.

Edit: Many of the Stumpjumper EVOs [specialized.com] are on sale as well.

Thanks for posting, but I agree with lenser. The rear shock, front forks, brakes, even the groupset are low end. I'd say $1,500 would be a slickdeal, because you'd need to spend another $1,000 to upgrade everything. Prices on MTBs really need to come down more.

I guess it's "low end" in the realm of nice bikes, but compared to box store and many internet bikes, the parts on this bike are excellent.

You don't need to upgrade anything to go out and ride and have fun with this bike, but if you feel that the parts aren't good enough for the riding that you do, it'd make much more sense to just buy a better bike in the first place.

Agreed. The parts on the Status 160 are way better, even though it's only $150 more. However, I only see a mullet/MX option, which I haven't personally tried out.

For the same money, there's other bikes that would be a better buy, like Polygon.

Getting the right geometry for the type of riding that you like to do is much more important than a few upgraded components. And good luck finding a Polygon dealer (unless you live in Asia).

I wont even mention box store bikes since they are utter garbage no matter what they cost.

Yes the Spez parts are low end but still functional. I'm just saying bike tend to feel much better when they dont weigh like a tank.

Slightly OT, I'm just starting out on mountain biking. I'm thinking of getting the Rockhopper Sport that is also on sale for $565. I'm not sure I'll like mountain biking. Is the Rockhopper Sport a good deal? Anything better for that price range?
