If you buy this go to Samsung's website, download Samsung Magician and make sure your firmware is up to date. There's a known bug in early firmware revisions that cause premature drive failure.

Note: You cannot use a USB enclosure to update the firmware. You have to use a motherboard with a spare m.2 port. You could use the primary but you would have to install Windows on it first. I went through this when I bought my 980 Pro for my PS5. Samsung's software will not detect the drive using an enclosure.
The SN850X has lower latency and slightly edges out the 980 pro in most of the speed tests in the 2TB model Though I've been going with the 980 pro for all of my builds since it came out, I would go with the SN850X if at the same price.

From everything I have read this drive leads the pack in terms of speed and in just about every metric but the odd thing is that the same drive WITH the heat sink is listed at $179 and as having an MSRP of $199 while this drive without the heat sink is listed as having an MSRP for $379 by the same seller. Something fishy is going on with the MSRP

Probably just a typo. Should be $179 MSRP.

Is this better than the SK Hynix Platinum P41 2TB PCIe NVMe Gen4 [amazon.com] I paid the same price 29 days ago?

Not so slick, MSRP is inflated and there's a 990 model out now. I'll think I'll wait for the 990 price to drop a bit

Good info. But firmware has been released 14 months ago. Probably there's no issue on the new drive.

The article I linked to is only 2 weeks old. It's still highly probable a drive purchased today is at risk. Why even take a chance when it's a 5 minute fix to update the firmware?

I didn't purchase the 2 TB drive, but I bought the 980 pro 500 gb drive 3 months ago and I still had to update the firmware.

This is looking like a better option than 990 pro at the moment, with the wear leveling issue that many are experiencing on the 990 pros. But yeah, I think sn850x is better if price is the same
